Today's Gift

A person can grow only as much as their horizon allows. —John Powell

Should you become a doctor or perhaps an astronaut? Maybe being a writer or an athlete appeals to you. Dreaming of what to be can be useful. It helps us set our goals and learn our values. Also, using our imagination lets us "try on" a future role. We learn about our life's direction through our dreams of where to go and what to do.

Not all dreams are helpful, however. Sometimes we daydream about other things when we really do need to listen. Learning how to use our imagination to guide our plans for growing up takes practice.

Imagining ourselves happy and brave will help us feel both. Imagining ourselves as failures can be just as powerful. Let's respect the power of the imagination and use it to form good images of our future.

How can I build goodness and success into my future today?

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Keep It Simple

It is extraordinary how extraordinary the ordinary person is. ~George F. Will

At our meetings, we often hear stories of the courage of ordinary people and their triumph against great odds. When we hear of a person’s life being restored, we are witnesses to miracles. Our friends are heroes, and so are we. As a person describes their passage from insanity to recovery, we are moved.

Whenever we are truly open to knowing the people around us, whether at a meeting or in getting to know a neighbor, we will see heroism. It is amazing that when we get to know most people, and hear what their lives have been like, we find so much to admire and respect. It is a privilege to have such friends. It is amazing that they are so abundant when we open ourselves to them. The Universe truly does speak to us through others.

Action for the Day: I will be grateful when I think about the extraordinary people around me and the courage in each of them. I am grateful to be among them.

One Day At A Time

Bedeviled
To escape looking at the wrongs we have done another, we resentfully
focus on the wrong he has done us. This is especially true if he has, in
fact, behaved badly at all. Triumphantly we seize upon his misbehavior
as the perfect excuse for minimizing or forgetting our own. Right here we
need to fetch ourselves up sharply. It doesn't make much sense when a
tosspot calls a kettle black. Let's remember that alcoholics are not the
only ones bedeviled by sick emotions. Moreover, it is usually a fact that
our behavior when drinking has aggravated the defects of others.

Thought to Ponder
We are prisoners of our own resentments.
Forgiveness unlocks the door and sets us free.

Daily Motivation

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator
Most valuable aspects
by Ralph Marston

Utilize your strength, and it does not get used up. It grows even stronger.

Give love to others, and it does not diminish the love you have. It deepens and enriches that love, and results in even more love to give.

Teach someone else what you know, and it does not take knowledge away from you. In fact it expands your knowledge and makes it more relevant.

Offer kindness, and you end up with even more kindness. Make use of discipline, and you become even more disciplined.

Live with integrity, and you’ll gain greater integrity. Always speak the truth, and you’ll discover even more truth.

Seek out those things that become more plentiful each time you make use of them or offer them to others. What you’ll find are the most valuable aspects of life.
