Today's Gift
Self-love, my liege, is not so vile a sin as self-neglecting. —William Shakespeare
An important part of our lives is simply tending to our basic needs - sitting down daily to share a meal with loved ones, getting enough sleep, setting time aside for haircuts and polishing shoes, spending leisure time with friends. Paying attention to these things only when they become crises makes our lives unbalanced and crisis oriented. Many people have neglected themselves because they felt it was the mark of a tough person. Others have been so lost in work or so codependent that a respectful self-caring life was not possible.
As we regain our sanity, we find balance in the basics. Self-love allows us to be responsible for our care, and it puts us in a stronger position to help others, to be creative, and to assert our right to healthy life.
Today, I will look after the essentials of my personal care before I take on other things.

********************************Twenty-Four Hours a DayKeep It Simple
The man who said this memorable line had once believed he might feel better about himself if only he owned more. As an adult child, he felt he had missed out on something and somehow got the idea he could achieve peace by acquisition. So he started to collect things like boats, expensive new cars, better clothes, and so on. His models were people who had all the toys he was now collecting. He listened to them, followed them around, and imitated them. They were his heroes.
Luckily, it didn’t take him too long to discover the truth. As he got to know these people, he saw they were no happier because of what they had. One or two of them were happy, but their happiness didn’t depend on what they had. The rest of them, he learned, were fools who mindlessly looked for joy and meaning outside themselves.
This man’s “happiness by acquisition” experiment was only a slight detour, and he is back on the road to healthy thinking.
He is no fool.

One Day At A Time
Many of us had moral and philosophical convictions galore, but
we could not live up to them even though we would have liked
to. Neither could we reduce our self-centeredness much by
wishing or trying on our own power. We had to have our Higher Power’s help.

Be good to yourself***************************Daily MotivationExcerpt of The Daily Motivator
by Ralph Marston
Do something nice for yourself today. Take time to give yourself a special treat.
In order to contribute to life and provide value to others, you must first connect to the value that is within you. To connect with and appreciate that unique inner value, be good to yourself.
Think of the things that feel good, and right, and fulfilling to you. Look past all the superficial things undertaken or acquired only to impress others, and focus on what is sincerely you.
Give yourself the gift of being totally and joyfully you. Let go of your concerns, your worries, your pretenses and anxieties, and truly enjoy the moment you’re in.
By being good to yourself, you’ll be much better equipped to deal with whatever difficult situations the world sends your way. By being good to yourself, you vastly increase the value you can provide to others.
On a regular basis, take the opportunity to be good to yourself. And it will spur you on to become the best that you can be.
