Today's Gift

I will, I will accept myself
With hope and fear and wonder
And what I have joined together
Let no other put asunder. —Dory Preven

There is a wonderful freedom in acceptance. When we accept ourselves, with all our imperfections, we can then begin to accept others just as they are. This is especially exciting when we apply this discovery to our own families. A family is like a bouquet of flowers arranged in a common vase. Each flower is different. One might be blue, one white, one a rose, one a chrysanthemum. But each adds to the beauty of the whole bouquet and enhances the vase that holds it.

It isn't important that we know why one flower is blue and one white. We don't have to understand how a rose becomes a rose to appreciate the arrangement. We just accept it for what it is. Acceptance of others does not mean agreement or approval. How boring if we only accepted those who reflected our own ideas and opinions! How dull to look upon a bouquet of exactly the same flowers.

Today, will I accept the differences between us as part of our beauty together?

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Keep It Simple

We are always the same age inside. ~Gertrude Stein

Deep inside, each of us has a child’s spirit. We still have many of the feelings we had when we were young. Some of us have a hurting child inside. There’s sadness, fear, or anger that hasn’t gone away. We’re still lonely, no matter how many people care about us.

Our inner child needs special help to heal. We can be good parents to our inner child. We do this by being gentle and caring with ourselves. In time, this child can be a happy center in our hearts.

Prayer for the Day:  Higher Power, please heal the child inside me a little more each day. Help my inner child be alive, free, and full of joy.

Action for the Day: Right now, I’ll close my eyes for a minute. I’ll think kind thoughts about myself. Today I’ll find a way to show my inner child love and care.

One Day At A Time

Faith and Action
But they will be curious to learn why their own convictions have not worked
and why yours seem to work so well. They may be an example of the truth
that faith alone is insufficient. To be vital, faith must be accompanied by
self sacrifice and unselfish, constructive action.
- Alcoholics Anonymous, (Working With Others) p. 93

Thought to Ponder
Faith is mighty. Action with faith is mightier.

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator

Positive about something
by Ralph Marston

You don’t have to be positive about everything in order to be positive about something. The world around you doesn’t have to be perfect in order for you to get good work done.

Sure, you’d like the situation and the people around you to be more accommodating, more cooperative, understanding, and amenable. Yet there are plenty of ways you can move forward from the situation as it is, right now.

The world isn’t the way you’d like it to be, and that’s an opportunity. Because you can take action and make it a little better.

You can find something to be positive about. You can expand on that.

The news headlines are important, but they are certainly not everything. Though there is much you cannot change, there are plenty of powerful, significant things you can do.

Your actions today can make a positive difference in your life and the lives of others. Take that opportunity, do what you can, and expand what’s good and valuable in life.
