Today's Gift

I never lose sight of the fact that just being is fun. —Katharine Hepburn

The first good news each day is that we wake up. We are breathing. Our hearts are beating, our minds working. The adventure of living begins. What does the day hold in store? We have no way of knowing what surprises lie in wait for us today.

We may look forward, not just to the expected, but to the unexpected. Whom shall we meet? What will we see? What will we learn? How will we be entertained? What changes to help others will come our way? What chances to love and be loved?

Now that our eyes are opened to today's beauty, let us remain alert for new sights. Let us cry when sad, smile when touched, and laugh at what is funny in a whole new lifetime before us.

What can I be thankful for today?

What do We Deserve?

Good Expectations
We hear about people who snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Some of us do that even in
sobriety, experiencing failure just as success seems imminent.

At times, we may just be suffering from a bad situation that is all around us. But if we do seem to be having one bad break after another, we should look
more carefully within ourselves for causes. We may be punishing
ourselves, or pushing away our good simply because we do not feel worth
of it.

If we discover that this process is working in our lives, we must begin
changing these false patterns immediately. Having forgiven ourselves and
others, and having made amends, we need no punishment. We will work to
succeed in all of our activities, with a reasonable expectation of
success most of the time. We will expect and deserve the
best.

Today’s Action: I'll carry with me today a belief that I deserve to succeed and will
take all necessary action to earn my success.

One Day At A Time

Excuses
Therefore, the main problem of the alcoholic centers in his mind, rather
than in his body. If you ask him why he started on that last bender, the
chances are he will offer you any one of a hundred alibis. Sometimes
these excuses have a certain plausibility, but none of them really makes
sense in the light of the havoc an alcoholic’s drinking bout creates.

Thought to Ponder
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over; and expecting different results.

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator

Do it well
by Ralph Marston

You’re putting in the time and doing the work. Challenge yourself to make it your best.

Don’t search for distractions. Stop daydreaming, stop wishing you were somewhere else.

You are here now, doing this task. Focus on it, put all you have into it, and you’ll create something much better than a fleeting daydream.

What you have now is the opportunity to do something useful, to make a difference. See the value in it, and stay with the effort.

Richness and fulfillment come not from being given the ideal job, but from always giving your best to the job you’re doing. See opportunity not in the task itself, but in what you can make of the task.

Eventually you’ll move on to something else. Yet while you’re doing this, do it well, for there’s much right now to be gained from your diligence.
