Today's Gift

For all the sadness of closure, there is a new and joyful unfolding in the process of becoming. --Mary Casey

We must let go of people, places, memories, and move on to new experiences. The doors of the past must be closed before we can enter those that are opening to us today. However, no experience is gone forever. All of our experiences are threaded together, each one contributing to the events that claim our attention now.

Life offers us a chance to be aware of our process of becoming. With each day, each experience, each new understanding, we are advancing along the path of personal growth. Let us remember that each of us has a particular path, like no other. Thus, our experiences are ours alone. We need not envy what comes to someone else.

Life is unfolding for us. The pain of the present may be necessary for the pleasure of tomorrow. We can accept the unfolding. Our inner selves have a goal; experiences of the past must be left in the past; experiences at hand will lead us to our destination today.

I am moving and changing and growing, at the right pace. The process can be trusted. What is right for me will come to me. I will let the joy of becoming warm me.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Keep It Simple

Taking an honest look at ourselves is necessary if we want peace.

Step Four asks us to admit our character defects. That's not an easy assignment. How "defective" could we be? In truth, we do have many assets, and it will help us to admit our defects if we also own our assets.

The founders of the Twelve Steps were wise men who understood the value of self-assessment. None of us is without problems, many of which we cause ourselves because of behavior we need to change. But until we can stand back from ourselves and see our part in our troubles, we'll not have the data we need to make a change in our lives. This program is designed to help us change. Its goal for us is greater peace, but we must do our part.

Action for the Day: I will feel better today, and thus more peaceful, if I am willing to change a behavior that causes me trouble. I pray for willingness to admit my defects and own my assets.

One Day At A Time

Reliance
The notion that we would still live our own lives, Our Higher Power helping a little now and
then, began to evaporate. Many of us who had thought ourselves religious
awoke to the limitations of this attitude. Refusing to place our Higher Power first, we had
deprived ourselves of Their help. But now the words “Of myself I am nothing,
the Universe doeth the works” began to carry bright promise and meaning.

Thought to Ponder
Reliance on a Higher Power enables me to match calamity with serenity.

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator

A bright day
by Ralph Marston

Today, your whole life is ahead of you. No matter what your past has been, or how long that past has lasted, there are joys ahead, waiting to be lived. New discoveries are waiting to be made. If only you will decide to make them.

Your are brimming with possibilities. In every direction you look, is opportunity. The obstacles you face are miniscule, when compared to the abilities you command.

Today is a bright and beautiful day because you are alive. And there are so many great things you can do with your life.

There is no one better than you. There is no one more fortunate than you. You can be whatever you want to be, have whatever you want to have, and do whatever you want to do. If only you are willing to put forth the effort required. No one has more than that.

Wherever you are, right now, is the ideal starting point for a brilliant, joyful future. Appreciate all the wonderful things you have, and live your possibilities.
