Today's Gift
Some people are carriers of negativity. They are storehouses of pent up anger and volatile emotions. Some remain trapped in the victim role and act in ways that further their victimization. And others are still caught in the cycle of dysfunctional or compulsive patterns.
Negative energy can have a powerful pull on us, especially if we're struggling to maintain positive energy and balance. It may seem that others who exude negative energy would like to pull us into the darkness with them. We do not have to go. Without judgment, we can decide it's okay to walk away, okay to protect ourselves.
We cannot change other people. It does not help others for us to get off balance. We do not lead others into the Light by stepping into the darkness with them.
Today, Higher Power, help me to know that I don't have to allow myself to be pulled into negativity - even around those I love. Help me set boundaries. Help me know it's okay to take care of myself.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day
Keep It Simple
We all know people who are too often critical and negative. Sometimes we, too, are these people. And when we fall into this trap of negativity, our life becomes unnecessarily complicated.
Any behavior we commit to practicing regularly is strengthened, whether it's positive or negative. It benefits us then to practice developing and holding a positive outlook rather than a negative one. Making the decision, each day, to quiet our mind, clearing it of negative expectations, is not a mysterious or difficult undertaking. It is rather an opportunity to influence in meaningful ways the many experiences we're destined to have.
We're empowered by claiming responsibility for how we perceive and respond to our opportunities, and thus for whom we are becoming.
Action for the Day: I will look at today as a day full of promise with hope and gladness in my heart.

One Day At A Time
By now the newcomer has probably arrived at the following conclusions:
that their character defects, representing instincts gone astray, have been
the primary cause of their drinking and their failure at life; that unless they are
now willing to work hard at the elimination of the worst of these defects,
both sobriety and peace of mind will still elude them; that all the faulty
foundation of their life will have to be torn out and built anew on bedrock.
- Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, (Step Four) p. 50
Thought to Ponder
If I want my Higher Power to remove my character defects,
I'll have to stop doing them.

Think before you respond***************************Daily MotivationExcerpt of The Daily Motivator
by Ralph Marston
Some of what seems to get you frustrated may not actually be what’s making you frustrated. It could just be a habit you’re continuing to follow without even reconsidering why.
Perhaps you’re not well served by reacting the same way you’ve always reacted. Perhaps you can choose a more beneficial response.
Step back, take a deep breath, and take a good look. Ask yourself which of the ways you’ve been responding to life are in your best interest, and which are not.
It takes more effort to think before you respond. It also gets you much better results.
Are there people, concepts, or situations that cause you anger, anxiety, or despair just out of habit? Maybe it’s time to progress beyond those habits.
Use the power of your intention, driven by authentic purpose. Choose your attitudes and actions based on what works best for you now, and not necessarily on what you’ve always done.
