Today's Gift

Nothing is more difficult than competing with a myth. — Francoise Giroud

Sometimes we think we need to try and be something we're not. Maybe we feel pressure from friends to behave or dress like someone else. All we need to do is remember when we were younger and dressed in our parents' clothes and shoes. We pretended to be grownups, and it was fun for a while. Then the huge shoes on our feet grew clumsy and uncomfortable and the mountain of rolled-up sleeves kept falling down and getting in the way. Soon we grew tired of the game and stopped pretending. Today when we start feeling the pressure to be someone else, let's remember how hard it is to play a role that doesn't fit us.

What can I do today that is most like me?

Twenty-Four Hours a Day
Keep It Simple

Accepting ourselves

Many of us used to think that our Higher Power hates this or that about us or about others, but our Higher Power doesn’t hate at all. Our Higher Power accepts us and loves us no matter how we have lived. It understands that we are capable of changing.

This is the only way we come to know our Higher Power, even as we begin to accept ourselves and others. The ability to accept ourselves more and more is a gift. It comes as we build upon the strong, valuable parts of ourselves.

Am I learning to accept myself?

Prayer for the Day: Higher Power, help me believe in your acceptance, forgiveness, and generosity; help me to be willing to see myself in a new way.

Action for the Day: Today I will work on self-acceptance.

One Day At A Time

Foundation for Life
There is a direct linkage among self-examination, meditation,
and prayer. Taken separately, these practices can bring much
relief and benefit. But when they are logically related and
interwoven, the result is an unshakable foundation for life.

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator
Watch yourself
by Ralph Marston

You can sometimes hide your thoughts and actions from others. Yet you cannot hide them from yourself.

The person you are becoming is always watching the person you are right now. The genuine image you have of yourself tomorrow depends on the actions you watch yourself taking today.

The person you will be, is always watching the person you are. And what you sincerely think of yourself, based on what you see, will play a major role in the quality of your life.

The confidence with which you live next month will be based on the integrity of the actions you take this week. Think for a moment what a grand opportunity that represents.

You have the ability, with your thoughts and actions in this very moment, to become precisely the person you most truly want to be. With each little step you take, you’re building the future character with which you’ll live.

The qualities of your life that matter most are not in any way left to chance. They’re yours to develop and strengthen every moment, even now, as you watch yourself grow.
