Today's Gift
Most of us like to sit down with trouble as if it were knitting. —Ellen Glasgow
How often we turn minor challenges into monumental barriers by giving them undue attention, forgetting that within any problem lies its solution! However, the center of our focus must be off the problem's tangle if we are to find the solution's thread. The best remedy for this dilemma is the Serenity Prayer.
We cannot change our co-workers, spouses or partners, not even the best friends who we know love us. But with our Higher Power's help we can change the attitude that has us blocked at this time. A changed attitude, easing up on ourselves, lessening our expectations of others, will open the door to the kind of relationships we seek, the smooth flowing days we long for.
We need not take life so seriously. In fact, we shouldn't take it so seriously. We can measure our emotional health by how heartily we laugh with others and at ourselves. The 24 hours stretching before us at this time promises many choices in attitude. We can worry, be mad, depressed, or frustrated, or we can trust our Higher Power to see us through whatever the situation. So, we can relax. It is our decision, the one decision over which we are not powerless.
I will be in control of my attitude today. I can have the kind of day I long for.

How easily we mistake attention for love. Even more easily, we trick ourselves into thinking our ability to control someone signifies love—especially theirs for us. But love is something far different from either attention or control. Far different.
Love frees others from our grasp—and lets them return on their own. Love is placing an other's personal needs above our own, without regret. Love is selfless, yet it exhilarates the self. Giving love softens our edges, completes us, and connects us to the people with whom we are fulfilling our destinies.
Wanting love is a normal human desire, not one we should deny. And we shall receive love, the less our emphasis is on getting it, the more on giving it. We invite love when we freely and honestly give it. Another invitation for love comes from loving ourselves; self-hatred, which trapped many of us for years, hampers us no longer. Love inspires ourselves and those we give it to. It brightens our way, lessens our burdens, makes possible our rightful unfolding.
Action for the Day: I won't look for love today. I will just give it. It will bless me tenfold.

One Day At A Time
No Defense
Once more: The alcoholic at certain times has no effectivemental defense against the first drink. Except in a few cases,
neither they nor any other human being can provide such a
defense. Their defense must come from a Higher Power.

Daily Motivation
Excerpt of The Daily Motivator
by Ralph Marston
Is your use of time right now advancing your life in the direction you want it to go? Or is there something more purposeful, more fulfilling that you could be doing?
Once this day is over, you’ve forever lost its unique possibilities. Keep that in mind, and make sure you’re choosing the highest possibilities in every moment.
The march of time is relentless, and you can be just as relentless. Align your priorities so that time is working for you rather than against you.
Lift your awareness above the meaningless distractions. Constantly feel the gentle, yet powerful energy of knowing that you’re making a positive difference.
A week from today, you can look back and clearly see the progress you’ve made. Use this moment, this situation, this activity to ensure you’ll be looking back with the highest satisfaction.
Life happens now, and what you do with now has a very real impact on the life you experience from this day on. Do all you can to make that impact the most beneficial it can be.
