Today's Gift

The hopeful people see success where others see failure, sunshine where others see shadows and storm. —O. S. Marden

When wise people say, "Hope springs eternal," they are reminding us that no matter how great are the obstacles, the hope of winning out in the long run still exists. Hope is our friend when all else has failed. When we have strength of character and an energetic mind, hope always flourishes.

We discover that, at the very brink of despair, we will find courage to keep trying as long as there is hope for success. After all, what have we got to lose? Without hope, we have no chance, anyway. Our chance for glory comes when we keep trying even though all seems lost. Our hearts remain strong and brave when hope reminds us that challenges last until a game is over.

What light of hope can I keep burning within me today?

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Keep It Simple

Love and the hope of it are not things one can learn; they are a part of life's heritage. --Maria Montessori

Love is a gift we've been given by our Creator. The fact of our existence guarantees that we deserve it. As our recognition of this grows, so does our self-love and our ability to love others.

High self-esteem, stable self-worth were not our legacies before finding this program. We sought both through means which led nowhere. These Steps and our present relationships are providing the substance and direction needed in our lives to discover our worthiness.

Had we understood that we were loved, in all the years of our youth, perhaps we'd not have struggled so in the pain of alienation. We were always at the right hand of our Higher Power, never apart, loved and watched over. But we didn't recognize the signs. The signs are everywhere present now. Each Step is a constant reminder. Every human contact is a message from the Universe. Any desire we are eager to make manifest is a beckoning from our Higher Power for growth.

Action for the Day: I will look for the signs of my benefactor today. They're present everywhere.

One Day At A Time

Steps Eight & Nine
Now we need more action, without which we find that "Faith without works is dead." Let's look at Steps Eight and Nine. We have a list of all persons we have harmed and to whom we are willing to make amends. We made it when we took inventory. We subjected ourselves to a drastic self-appraisal. Now we go out to our fellows and repair the damage done in the past. -

Thought to Ponder:
It is the highest form of self-respect to admit mistakes and to make amends for them.

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator
Reason to hope
by Ralph Marston

You don’t have to have a reason to hope. Just go ahead, live with hope, and benefit from the perspective it gives you.

Hope is something you hold and nurture within yourself, and does not have to be supported or diminished by what’s happening in the world outside you.

Hold on to hope, and let it give you the positive energy to move forward. See the world as it really is, and let your hope show you how you can make a positive difference.

There is always hope, for you can always choose it. Choose hope not to escape from your troubles, but to successfully pull you through those troubles.

Imagine a world, and imagine a life, driven by hope and by love, rather than by fear. Imagine, and then let what you imagine become real in the moment where you are.

There is so much good that you can do, and in your heart you know it. Live with hope for the best, and act to make it so.
