Today's Gift
Some people greet the morning with a smile, but it's more natural to protest its presence with sleepy sulkiness. "Who asked you to come again?" we feel like saying to it, as if it were a most unwelcome guest. —Brendan Francis
We begin with the truth and build on the firm foundation it provides. We often hear we should have a positive attitude, we should be grateful for the new day. Perhaps some days we feel enthusiasm, and it's wonderful when we do. But we don't need to turn it into a requirement because shoulds tend to keep us out of touch with our honest feelings.
All feelings are acceptable. Whatever they are, the entire range of color and intensity of feelings comes from our Creator. Our task is dealing with them and responding to them. We begin by acknowledging them as they are. We do not have license to do whatever we feel like doing, only to feel what we feel. This point of honesty is a solid stepping-stone to grow from. We often find we feel different as soon as we admit our feelings.
Today, I will admit my true feelings and accept them as stepping-stones.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day
We often say that one of our main needs in life is security. We want to be able to predict and control how things will play out. The problem with this view is that even when we gain more control, it doesn’t generally make us feel deeply secure. If we accept security as our goal, we are soon on an endless search for more. A much wiser goal is to walk the road of life, accepting that it is always insecure. Happiness isn’t found by pursuing happiness, and a sense of security isn’t found by grasping for more security. They are both found by indirect means.
We find security by making peace with our insecurity and by trusting our Higher Power to care for our lives. We find happiness by taking on work that has meaning beyond ourselves.
Today's Action: Today, I will walk on foot the journey that has meaning and value, and I’ll accept the insecure feelings that are part of life.

One Day At A Time
Ask for their health, their prosperity, their happiness, and you will
be free. Even when you don’t really want it for them and your prayers
are only words and you don’t mean it, go ahead and do it anyway.
Do it every day for two weeks, and you will find you have come to
mean it and to want it for them, and you will realize that where you
used to feel bitterness and resentment and hatred, you now feel
compassionate understanding and love.

Thought to Ponder
Resentment is like acid, eating away at the vessel it is stored in.

Daily Motivation
Excerpt of The Daily Motivator
by Ralph Marston
If you don’t have a well-defined purpose, you’re likely to follow anyone in any direction. If you’re not clear about where you intend to go, you’re not going to like where you end up.
When you’re purposeful, distractions are an annoyance, yet your purpose will pull you back on track. When you have no purpose, even the smallest distraction can lead you off into a vast expanse of wasted living.
It is not easy to live a purposeful life. But what’s far worse is a meaningless life.
Ask yourself what exactly you want, what you care about, what you love. Keep asking until you get an answer that you cannot deny.
Then take that purpose and lodge it firmly in the forefront of your awareness. Keep it there, to serve as a guide, a shield, and a powerful lens through which you focus your energy.
Life overflows with abundance, possibilities, opportunities. Align yourself in a specific direction, and enable yourself to make good use of it all.
