Today's Gift
Before the rain stops we hear a bird. Even under the heavy snow we see snowdrops and some new growth. ~Shunryu Suzuki
The signals that new growth is underway are often very small at first. It's sometimes discouraging when we are trying to remake our lives and all we can see for our efforts is minor growth. That is how the natural world works, and we are part of this world. When the little sprouts of growth first develop under the snow in spring we don't even see them unless we search. Yet, they signal the beginnings of a total transformation. Time will bring vast changes, but only little signs are showing first.
Today, we may search for signs of progress in our lives. The little things we see may signal bigger transformations yet to come. To be true to them in the long run we must accept them—even welcome them—as they are today.
I will notice the subtle movements toward health and renewal in my life. Welcoming them will encourage them.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day
Keep It Simple
Often, one of our biggest questions is "What's going to happen?" We may ask this about our relationships, our career, our recovery, and our life. It is easy to tangle us up in worrisome thoughts.
Worrying about what's going to happen blocks us from functioning effectively today. It keeps us from doing our best now. It blocks us from learning and mastering today's lessons. Staying in the now, doing our best, and participating fully today are all we need to do to assure ourselves that what's going to happen tomorrow will be for the best.
Worrying about what's going to happen is a negative contribution to our future. Living in the here and now is ultimately the best thing we can do, not only for today, but also for tomorrow. It helps our relationships, our career, our recovery, and our life.
Things will work out, if we let them. If we must focus on the future other than to plan, all we need to do is affirm that it will be good.
Action for the Day: I pray for faith that my future will be good if I live today well, and in peace. I will remember that staying in the present is the best thing I can do for my future. I will focus on what's happening now instead of what's going to happen tomorrow.

One Day At A Time
Alcoholics?Addicts especially should be able to see that instinct run wild in themselves
is the underlying cause of their destructive drinking/drugging. We have drunk/used to drown feelings of fear, frustration, and depression. We have drunk/used to escape the guilt
of passions, and then have drunk/used again to make more passions possible. We
have drunk/used for vainglory—that we might the more enjoy foolish dreams of pomp
and power. This perverse soul-sickness is not pleasant to look upon.

Daily Motivation
Excerpt of The Daily Motivator
by Ralph Marston
Do you feel overwhelmed by all the things that are going wrong in the world? That’s because you’re ignoring the massively greater number of things going right.
Flip a switch and the light comes on. Do you realize how many things have to go right for that to happen, and to be as reliable as it is?
Consider the electronic screen that delivers all the bad news to you. Thousands of things have to go right, and work in perfect synchronization, for that information to appear.
Bad things do happen, often. Yet every moment of every day, many, many more good things happen, things you don’t even notice.
Yes, pay attention to the problems, act on them, work to solve them. At the same time, keep them in perspective.
Appreciate, support, and maintain all that reliably goes right and works well. You’ll be well equipped to successfully deal with whatever goes wrong.
