Today's Gift
Hope is the thing with feathers
that perches in the soul
And sings the tune without the words
And never stops at all.
--Emily Dickinson
We often hum and sing to ourselves because it makes us feel content. It is the melody itself that makes us feel good - words and thoughts do not matter.
Having hope for ourselves and for our universe is like having a melody always moving inside us. The melody may be calm or exciting, but most of all it brings with it beauty and a sense of peace. Hope can overcome the need for words and thoughts and promises. Hope is the melody that keeps us going, the hum that continues even when there are no words to the song. Hope is not a melody we think about - it must come when we believe in the goodness of our world.
If we have faith in a power greater than ourselves, we will be able to find the melody of hope inside us at all times.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day
Keep It Simple
The most important function of art and science is to awaken the cosmic spiritual feeling and keep it alive. --Albert Einstein
There is no need to be concerned about a conflict between science and the spiritual life. People have turned to the spiritual in many ways since the beginning of humanity. Some are tribal and primitive, some very emotional, some focused on ideas and philosophy, some centered on tradition. Perhaps in the very center of our humanness is a spiritual compass. When we disown that orientation, do we lose some of our humanness? This program did not invent the spiritual outlook. It only tells us recovery will come through awakening of the spiritual within us.
We are on an exploration. We give ourselves over to it and only discover where our awakening will lead as it unfolds. The Steps tell us to engage with the God of our understanding, to develop a relationship of trust, total openness and humility, and to improve the contact. As the center of our humanness is restored, we come alive and our daily tasks take on new meaning.
Action for the Day: May I be awakened again to that cosmic feeling we all inherit.

One Day At A Time
Vigorous Action
Next we launched out on a course of vigorous action, the first step of
which is a personal housecleaning, which many of us had never attempted.
Though our decision was a vital and crucial step, it could have little permanent
effect unless at once followed by a strenuous effort to face, and to be rid of,
the things in ourselves which had been blocking us. Our using and abusing was but a symptom.
So we had to get down to causes and conditions.

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator
Hope is present
by Ralph Marston
Hope is present today. Goodness is possible now.
Beauty dwells in every corner of existence. Possibility permeates each moment, all circumstances, the whole of life.
The squabbles, deadlines and dramas of everyday experience can seem so consequential. Yet they pale in comparison to the extent of goodness that can be.
Take a moment, take a breath, and remember who you are, what you have, all you can do. Feel the fresh, raw hope that streams into life from its endless source.
Take hold of that hope. Let it fill you with awareness of the possibilities for new value, goodness, richness and meaning.
No matter where you’ve come from, or what direction you’ve been going, today you can move positively forward. Hope is present, and you are here to put it to work.
