Today's Gift
Liabilities
Nearly every serious emotional problem can be seen as a case of misdirected instinct.
When that happens, our great natural assets, the instincts, have turned into
physical and mental liabilities. Step Four is our vigorous and painstaking effort
to discover what these liabilities in each of us have been, and are.

Positive perspective
Before the rain stops we hear a bird. Even under the heavy snow we see snowdrops and some new growth. —Shunryu Suzuki
The signals that new growth is underway are often very small at first. It's sometimes discouraging when we are trying to remake our lives and all we can see for our efforts is minor growth. That is how the natural world works, and we are part of this world. When the little sprouts of growth first develop under the snow in spring we don't even see them unless we search. Yet, they signal the beginnings of a total transformation. Time will bring vast changes, but only little signs are showing first.
Today, we may search for signs of progress in our lives. The little things we see may signal bigger transformations yet to come. To be true to them in the long run we must accept them - even welcome them - as they are today.
I will notice the subtle movements toward health and renewal in my life. Welcoming them will encourage them.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day
Keep It Simple
Each of my days are miracles. I won't waste my day; I won't throw away a miracle. -- Kelley Vickstrom
It's so easy to forget to be grateful for our many blessings. We may take our freedom from the compulsion to drink or use for granted. Having learned to monitor our behavior and change it when necessary, we seldom treasure this skill as an asset.
The rut of complacency claims all of us at one time or another. And our complacency can lead us to the stinking thinking that's only a step away from drinking or using or some other compulsive behavior. Having sponsors point out our complacency may irritate us, but it may also save our lives.
Practicing gratitude will keep us aware of the small and large miracles that we have experienced on this recovery journey: We remember where we were last night (thanks to the clear vision of abstinence). We have reconciled with family members.
In fact, we are walking miracles, and the Universe has a plan for the rest of our lives. Let's be ready for it.
Action for the Day: I will try to be attentive to every moment of today, knowing that each experience is part of the miracle of my life.

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator
Positive perspective
by Ralph Marston
Time you spend being resentful is time you’ll never spend being joyful. Energy you consume by worrying is energy you cannot use to move forward.
You decide what gets to you and you decide what doesn’t. You decide what merits a response and what that response will be.
The world around you may often seem angry and divisive. But that in no way forces you to be angry and divisive too.
It’s in your best interest to consider your best interest before doing whatever you do. Almost always, your interest is better served by positive intention than by negative reaction.
Kindness, compassion, and understanding toward others is also great kindness toward yourself. Ease away from the burdens of blame and retribution, and reward your spirit with forgiveness and love.
Resolve to be a source of goodness rather than a receptacle of negativity. Live with a positive perspective, and live at your highest level.
