Action for the Day: Today let me cherish my gift of sobriety and not take it for granted.

Step Two
"Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity."
Even so has our Higher Power restored us all to our right minds. To this person,
the revelation was sudden. Some of us grow into it more slowly.
But They have come to all who have honestly sought Them.
When we drew near to Them They disclosed Themself to us!
- Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 57
Thought to Ponder
I came; I came to; I came to believe.

Something unexpected
. . . we will be victorious if we have not forgotten how to learn. —Rosa Luxemburg
For most of us the struggle was long, painful and lonely to the place where we are now. But survive we have, and survive we will. The times we thought we could go no further are only dimly recalled. The experiences we were certain would destroy us fit ever so neatly into our book of memories.
We have survived, and the Universe is offering us the means for continued survival. Step-by-Step we are learning to handle our problems, build relationships based on honesty, and choose responsible behavior. We are promised serenity if we follow the Steps.
Gratitude for our survival is best expressed by continuing to working on ourselves, setting an example for others, helping those who haven't yet attained victory. We must give away what we have learned to make way for our own new growth. There are many victories in our future if we keep pressing forward, opening new doors, and trusting in the process of life and its promises.
I am still willing to learn or I wouldn't be here, now. There are victories in my future. I will look for a victory today. It's certain to accompany responsible action on my part.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day
Keep It Simple
Sobriety is a big gift box with a hundred little packages inside to unwrap. --Oscar Morris
Sobriety is its own reward and then some. Sobriety is a condition of openness and receptivity to the treasure of life. It is the ability to view the world through gentler glasses and hear our fellows with kinder ears. It is the ability to see things as they really are, instead of how we'd like them to be. It is a condition of honesty and willingness to be true to ourselves and others.
On this day we can look out the window when we get up in the morning. No matter what we see - another building, a yard, even an airshaft - it can remind us that we're not the same people we used to be. We can look at this world without fear. It won't bite back anymore.
Sobriety is seeing the world with open eyes. It is the gift of learning how to view the world as a friendly and loving place to be. Sobriety is crying without shame and laughing with abandon. It is a gift that wakes us up with hope and puts us to sleep with peace.

Something unexpected
by Ralph Marston
Something unexpected will happen today. Decide right now that when it comes, you will treasure it.
Something will come along that you didn’t plan for, and at first you might feel anger, fear, annoyance, resentment. But look more closely, and see if there is some kind of new value you can gain from it.
You’re smart to anticipate and prepare for what is likely to occur. Yet you can also find great benefit in embracing what’s unlikely, unusual, unexpected.
Something unexpected can help you discover skills, preferences, ideas you never knew you could have. Something unexpected can nudge you to look at life from a new, more enlightened perspective.
It’s good to stay focused, but don’t be too quick to judge when something unexpected disrupts that focus. Every so often, disruption can be invigorating.
Be prepared for not being prepared, be expecting what you could never expect. And find a way that you can employ it to add new richness to your world.
