Today's Gift

Follow your dream . . . take one-step at a time and don't settle for less, just continue to climb. —Amanda Bradley

Dreams are common to us all. Dreams are special as well. We probably keep to ourselves many of our dreams for fear of derision or misunderstanding. Oftentimes we may have selectively shared some dreams, those we figured would get approval. The ones closest and dearest to us, the ones we feel most vulnerable about, we may choose to treasure to our hearts only, sometimes thinking, "If only you knew," sometimes wondering if we are being silly.

We are coming to believe that our dreams are spirit-filled. They are gifts to encourage us. Like a ship at sea needing a "heading" to move forward, our dreams lend direction to our lives. Our frustration may be that we can't realize a dream without many steps and much time. But life is a process of steps. Success in anything comes inch-by-inch, stroke-by-stroke, step after step.

My dreams today are meant to guide me. I will take a first step toward making the dream a reality.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Keep It Simple
Real joy comes not from ease or riches or from the praise of men, but from doing something worthwhile. ~W. T. Grenfell

Joy, like happiness and freedom, is a major prize of recovery. And like these other two conditions, joy eludes those who seek it directly. It is a result of, and dependent on, something else.

Joy is a secondary effect of a primary action. When we create an environment that supports and encourages someone else, we find joy in the doing. There may be no more valuable human enterprise than lightening someone else’s load, leading someone who’s lost to the safe road, or extending a hand to someone who has fallen.

Such opportunities present themselves daily to recovering people. At every meeting, we’re in touch with people who greatly need the counsel, wisdom, and example of those who have made a decision about the past, have left behind what was, and are creating sweet new days as they walk the path of recovery.

If we hope to know joy, we must share what we have.

Action for the Day: Today, I will pass along the kindness that has been shown me.

One Day At A Time

The Turning Point
Remember that we deal with alcohol—cunning, baffling, powerful!
Without help it is too much for us. But there is One who has all
power—that One is our Higher Power. May you find Them now! Half measures
availed us nothing. We stood at the turning point. We asked Their
protection and care with complete abandon.

Thought to Ponder
When we surrender to our Higher Power, the journey begins.

Daily Motivation
Follow your own dreams
by Ralph Marston

The part of your dream that most sincerely expresses who you are is the part that cannot help but come true. Choose to follow your very own dreams. They’re yours for a reason. You are the person most capable of achieving them and you are the person who will be the most fulfilled by them.

Forget about living the dreams of others. When your goal is to be just like someone else, your efforts to reach it will bring frustration and disillusionment.

The greatest gift you have to give is yourself, your own true self. The dreams, the goals, the purposes and passions you hold dear are powerful and undeniable expressions of the person you are. Find and nurture them, and they will energize your efforts. Be the most effective person you can be by truly being yourself.
