Today's Gift
To be reliable means to show up and to be trustworthy. Bumper sticker wisdom reminds us: you must be present to win. For anything of any import to occur in any situation, we must first be in attendance, available with our time, energy, and talents. How many times did we get nothing—and contribute nothing to the table, because we were somewhere else in our hearts and in our heads?
So showing up is the first requirement, but then we must also be willing to honor our word and actually follow through. When we do this, we gradually learn the critical importance of doing what we said we would do, even if we encounter difficulties. This opens the door to other important lessons, including the value of asking for help while we are doing our best to stay true to our intent.
And being trustworthy also includes holding close anything confidential someone else shares with us. When we put the concept of reliability into practice, we nurture many positive attributes: being present, asking for support, keeping our word, and following through with our actions.
Being reliable teaches me in many different ways.

The struggles of life teach us a lot. They challenge our beliefs. As we struggle, we come to believe that our friends, family, and Higher Power will be there for us in hard times. But we must do our part. We need to call and honestly let people know how we are doing. We need to pray and ask our Higher Power for help. If we do these things, we'll come to respect and learn from hard times.
Prayer for the Day: I pray for the wisdom to see that struggles are part of live. Higher Power, I pray for Your help in not taking struggles too personally.
Action for the Day: I'll list four times I've struggled and what I learned from each struggle.

Trust comes from truth, even when the truth hurts. Especially when the truth hurts. You cannot have trust without truth. And without trust, nothing is achieved.
To follow your own ideas and possibilities, you must have faith in them. You must trust them. You must trust yourself. That means being truthful with yourself -- bluntly and sincerely truthful.
The same dynamic applies even more profoundly when working with others. Would you provide your support, your time, or your expertise to someone you did not trust? Would you commit your energy and your resources to someone who had lied to you?
Without truth and trust, all our frenzied activity accomplishes nothing. Seek trust by accepting nothing less than the truth. Nurture trust by recognizing, respecting and appreciating truth. Create trust by living and acting in truth. In so doing, you will move steadily toward greatness.
