Today's Gift

The newest computer can merely compound, at speed, the oldest problem in relations between human beings, and in the end the communicator will be confronted with the old problem, of what to say and how to say it. ~Edward R. Murrow

We may reduce our difficulties with others to communication problems, yet the remedy may remain unclear. How can we become more responsible for our share of the communication? Can we stop blaming others?

When we improve in those ways, our relationships get better. Clear, specific, and direct language will help us be more responsible and less blaming. We can use simple words that expose the truth rather than words that hide or sugarcoat it. We can use specific examples and give details rather than generalities or hints. We can be more direct by using you and me language. In the process, we yield to the truth within ourselves—and become more honest.

Today, I will be aware of communicating clearly, specifically, and directly.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Keep It Simple
We do not remember days, we remember moments.----Cesare Pavese

It's the moment that's important. Each moment holds choice. Our spirits grow through working our program moment to moment. Moments lead to days, days to years, and years to a life of honest recovery.

It will be the moments of choice that we remember. The moment we call a friend instead of being alone.

The moment we decide to go for a walk instead of arguing with our partner. The moment we decide to go to an extra meeting instead of drinking or using other drugs. The moments lead us to our Higher Power.

These moments teach us that we're human, that we need others. At these moments, we know others care about us--our joys, and our struggles.

Prayer for the Day: Higher Power, help me remember that my recovery is made up of many moments of choice.

Today’s Action: I'll look back over the last twenty-four hours. What moments come to mind? Why were they important to me.

One Day At A Time

Our Big Book
Further on, clear-cut directions are given showing how we recovered.
These are followed by forty-two personal experiences. . .
Our hope is that many alcoholic men and women, desperately in need,
will see these pages, and we believe that it is only by fully disclosing
ourselves and our problems that they will be persuaded to say, "Yes,
I am one of them too; I must have this thing."

Daily Motivation

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator
Being your best
by Ralph Marston

Where is your awareness pointed today? Is that where you want it to be?

What are your expectations for this moment? Could you improve on those expectations, or add to them?

Your focus is where you decide to aim it, and your expectations are what you choose for them to be. Make the choice to make these things work in a beneficial way.

Yes, that is easier said than done. And yes, you can do it anyway, as difficult as it may be.

After all, this is your unique and irreplaceable life experience. It is worth, you are worth, every amount of intention and discipline you can give.

So choose to see the best, to expect the best, and to put your energy and effort into being your best. Certainly you deserve that from yourself, and for yourself.
