Today's Gift

Next time you’re feeling at odds with yourself, make a list of your good qualities…things like generosity and patience and thrift. It will surprise you to discover how nice you really are. ~Audrey Corn

Some days we just feel out of sorts and down on ourselves. In this program, we place great importance on self-inventories. We confront our defects and our wrongs, and we make lists of them to hold ourselves responsible. Any good inventory counts both assets and liabilities. On a day when we feel burdened with guilt or weakness, we ought to remind ourselves of the best of who we are. Remember good deeds that we have done. Remember what we do well, and don’t minimize those assets. If we are going to build on our strengths, we have to see them for what they are.

Our attitude toward ourselves and toward life is partly a matter of mental discipline. It does no good for anyone if we sit passively in our negativity. We can learn to affirm that we are children of creation, and we have a right to be here. In spite of our imperfections, we are a force for good.

Today, I will carry in my thoughts some of my good qualities.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Keep It Simple
You're only human, you've suppose to make mistakes.---Billy Joel

Listen to the kind voice inside. Listen to the voice that tells you you're
good enough. Listen to the voice that tells you it's okay to make
mistakes---you'll learn from them. Listen to the voice that tells you to go
to your meeting even though it's cold outside and you're tired. Listen and
let this voice become more and more clear. Listen, and welcome it in your
heart. Talk with the voice.

Ask it questions and seek it out when you need a friend. This voice is your
Higher Power. Listen as your Higher Power speaks to you. Listen as your
Higher Power tells you what a great person you are.

Prayer for the Day: I pray to the gentle, loving voice that lives in me. Higher Power, You've
always been kind to me. You've always loved me. Help me to remember You're always there---inside me.

Action for the Day: I will take time from my busy day to listen and talk with the loving voice
that lives inside me.

One Day At A Time

Faith
We can have faith, yet keep our Higher Power out of our lives. Therefore our problem
now becomes just how and by what specific means shall we be able to
let Them in? Step Three represents our first attempt to do this. In fact,
the effectiveness of the whole A.A. program will rest upon how well
and earnestly we have tried to come to "a decision to turn our will
and our lives over to the care of our Higher Power as we understood Them."
- Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, (Step Three) pp. 34 - 35

Thought to Ponder
Avoidance is not the key; surrender opens the door.

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator
Be for what you are for
by Ralph Marston

Don’t get angry at those who oppose you. Get smart, get creative, get energetic, get busy.

When you fight against a person, an idea, an institution, you’re not fighting on your own terms. You’re fighting on their terms, putting yourself at a severe disadvantage.

Instead, dig deeper and connect with the positive vision behind what you support. Craft an authentic, compelling story that inspires you and attracts others to join you.

Be for what you are for, in full and passionate support of what you love and care about. Rather than getting drawn into fighting, put your time and effort into building, maintaining, strengthening.

Raise yourself to a higher level than those who would go against you. Create so much enrichment and affirmation that their negativity is rendered irrelevant.

If all you can think to do is complain and oppose, think some more. Zero in on what makes you care so much, on what you seek to lift up, and aim yourself solidly in that direction.
