Today's Gift

I wake each morning with the thrill of expectation and the joy of being truly alive. And I'm thankful for this day. —Angela L. Wozniak

Being open to the day's offering, all of it, and looking for the positive experiences therein, becomes habit only after a firm commitment and dedicated practice. Today is special for each of us.

These next twenty-four hours will be unlike all others. And we are not the persons we were, even as recently as yesterday. Looking forward to all of the day's events, with the knowledge that we are in the care of our higher power, in every detail, frees us to make the most of everything that happens.

We have been given the gift of life. We are survivors. The odds against survival in our past make clear we have yet a job to do and are being given the help to do it. Confidence wavers in all of us, but the strength we need will be given to each of us.

In this day that stands before me, I can be certain that I'll have many chances for growth, for kindness to others, for developing confidence in myself. I will be thoughtful in my actions today. They are special and will be repeated no more.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Keep It Simple

We must learn to reawaken and keep ourselves awake, not by mechanical aids, but by an infinite expectation of the dawn. ~Henry David Thoreau

The wisdom of hope in the face of trouble is a fundamental principle of the spiritual path. We expect to have problems, and we’ve already come through many of them. Our problems haven’t dashed our hopes. Our awakening in the spiritual life means that even in the darkest night, we can expect that dawn always comes. We have problems, we respond to them, and things get better.

Our spirituality shows us how to have serenity in the face of risk. We accept the darkness because it is inevitable, but we are not defeated by it. We rise above it with our trust in our Higher Power to lead us toward the inevitable light.

Action for the Day: Today, my awakening means I trust in a Higher Power to lead me to a better future.

One Day At A Time

Enjoying Life
We have been speaking to you of serious, sometimes
tragic things. We have been dealing with alcohol in its
worst aspect. But we aren't a glum lot. If newcomers
could see no joy or fun in our existence, they wouldn't
want it. We absolutely insist on enjoying life.

Thought to Ponder
Laughter is the sound of recovery.

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator

Thankful for your critics
by Ralph Marston

If no one is willing or able to call you out when you are mistaken, that’s a problem. You avoid or ignore criticism at your peril.

There’s a reason why powerful kings of old had jesters. There’s a reason why so many cocooned celebrities have lives that end in tragedy.

If you’re able to make small mistakes with impunity, that leads you to make bigger and bigger mistakes. Eventually that can reach a level of depravity and destruction from which you have no escape.

Be thankful for your critics. Be mindful of what they say to you.

You cannot grow stronger if you are shielded from the consequences of your behavior. Whether your critics have your interest at heart or not, it’s in your interest to pay attention to them.

Take full advantage of the early warning system that your critics provide. See how their challenges, their objections, and their questions can all point toward your own improvement.
