Today's Gift
Seize the opportunity by the beard, for it is bald behind. ~Bulgarian proverb
Through laziness or inattention, we often miss opportunities to grow. Maybe we don’t play our hunches or listen to our intuition. Maybe we see an opportunity, but fail to act because we’re not sure it’s what we ought to do. An opportunity to fulfill a lifelong dream has appeared, but we don’t trust our good fortune. A chance has come to use our talent to help someone, but we don’t know how the person will handle it, so we do nothing.
And we rationalize. We decide it’s a frivolous impulse, a whim that’s not worth our attention. We decide it couldn’t be our Inner Guide.
The Universe seldom takes us by the scruff of the neck and pulls us to our next destination. The Universe provides the opportunities; it’s up to us to seize them. The Universe talks to us; it’s up to us to listen.
Today I’ll be on the lookout for The Universe’s opportunities. I will help myself grow today.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day
Keep It Simple
Finding the Spirit of the Thing.
We’re sometimes advised to “fake it until you make it.” But how can anything false really lead us to recovery? Aren’t we told that this is an honest program?
We’re not being dishonest by pushing ourselves to become actively involved in AA. The self-help movements have told us for years that we have to form an image of what we want to be in order to reach our goals. We are forming an image that corresponds to the sober people we want to be. We are actually rehearsing sober living and working to accept a picture of sobriety in our heart of hearts.
There’s also much to be said for “faking it” enough to attend meetings and try to benefit from association with people….. even those we don’t like. This puts us in line for the change we really need.
A lot of members say that they “white-knuckled it” during the first months or years of sobriety. If this worked to bring recovery, it had to be the right approach.
Action for the Day: Even if there is rebellion within, today I’ll talk and act like the sober person I want to be.

One Day At A Time
Living upon a basis of unsatisfied demands, we were in a state of
continual disturbance and frustration. Therefore, no peace was to be
had unless we could find a means of reducing these demands. The
difference between a demand and a simple request is plain to anyone.

All I have feared to lose I have gained and all I feared to gain I have lost.

Daily Motivation
Excerpt of The Daily Motivator
by Ralph Marston
What can you do? You can do what you can.
If what you can do doesn’t seem like enough, do it anyway. The more you do what you can, the more you can do.
If you’re feeling like it will take forever, that’s an excellent reason to start right now. Do what you can, as soon as you can, and you’re on your way to making a difference.
What will people say, or think, or do? That’s all beyond your control, and all the more reason to do what you can.
Your time, knowledge, skills and resources are limited. So by all means put them to good use, and do what you can.
Take every opportunity to move life a little bit in the direction you want it to go. Do what you can, again and again, and you’ll find yourself doing a lot more good than you ever could have imagined.
