Today's Gift

Chaos demands to be recognized and experienced before letting itself be converted into a new order. —Hermann Hesse

The forces of chaos and forces of order are always at work in the world. While many things are being built up, many are wearing down. It is a good thing because life would be very boring in an unchanging state. But the chaos we met in our lives was often extreme and unusually destructive. We had to recognize it and feel the pain of it before we could build a new order.

All people have small chaotic events in their lives every day. If we take a moment and reflect on our present lives, we can certainly become aware of some ways in which things are in disarray. By simply letting ourselves know it in this moment, we get ready for the new order to begin.

I pray for courage and honesty to see the chaos, which exists today. Help me become ready for the new order to evolve.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Keep It Simple

Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. ~Rachel Carson

Where do we turn for contemplation and contact with a spiritual source? Many people find it in nature. They look out the window at a beautiful tree. They go for a walk outdoors, feed the birds, let themselves be awed by the sight of the moon on a dark night. The natural world offers our most direct, tangible contact with something eternal. We are part of something much larger than ourselves, something that endures for the ages.

The beauty of nature inspires awe, which is a form of reverence. We walk along a canyon rim and our Higher Power is there. We walk through prairie grasses and wildflowers teeming with wildlife, the wind blows in our faces, and our spirits rise. These natural beauties endure forever.

Action for the Day: Today, as I look at the natural world, I see my Higher Power.

One Day At A Time

But You Can
Thus we grow. And so can you, though you be but one man with
this book in your hand. We believe and hope it contains all you will
need to begin. We know what you are thinking. You are saying to
yourself: "I'm jittery and alone. I couldn’t do that." But you can.
You forget that you have just now tapped a source of power much
greater than yourself. To duplicate, with such backing, what we have
accomplished is only a matter of willingness, patience and labor.

Daily Motivation

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator

Difficult problems
by Ralph Marston

Problems are not pleasant. That’s why they bring out the best in you, and in many, many others.

When one person finds a problem unbearable, that person works hard to get beyond it. When millions of people cannot tolerate a problem, that problem gets solved.

Good times are enjoyable, and bring about marginal progress. Difficult times, however, give birth to massive breakthroughs.

There are always things you can do to make life better. When you’re faced with a serious challenge, you actually do those things.

When you’re not happy with the situation, that’s good. Because you’re also powerfully motivated to change it in a positive way.

Difficult, complicated problems don’t usually go away on their own, but they do go away. Because you, and a whole lot of other people, do the demanding work to make them go away.
