Today's Gift
One should learn to enjoy the neighbor’s garden, however small; the roses straggling over the fence, the scent of lilacs drifting across the road. ~Henry Van Dyke
There are many gifts around us that we overlook when we’re busy dealing with our anxieties and obligations. We talk about burning out from our high-intensity lifestyles. We act as though nothing would get done if we didn’t do it ourselves. We get so engrossed in fighting with the frustrations of life that we fail to see the good things coming our way that took no effort on our part.
As we look around us this very moment, what good things do we find? Has a friend given a warm hello? Is the sun shining? The rain falling? Has the traffic flowed smoothly? We have no claim on these generous events, and we can’t say the Universe smiles on us when we have them or frowns when we don’t. We can say there are always generous forces coming our way that comfort and heal us. We only need to take time to enjoy them.
Today, I will take some quiet moments to notice the good things coming my way. I will be grateful for them.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day
Keep It Simple
Service is a word we hear in our recovery program. Service means work we do for others. It's the backbone of our program. The reason is simple. Service to our Higher Power and to others breaks down our wanting to be self-centered. Service brings us back into the world. We really are part of the group when we pitch in to make coffee, set up chairs, or talk in meetings. We really feel like part of the family when we run errands and help with meals and housework. We really connect with our Higher Power when we pray, "Use me today to help others." Service breaks down the feeling of being alone that being self -centered brings.
Prayer for the Day: Higher Power, help me to be of service to You and others. Show me what is needed.
Action for the Day: Today will be a service day. I'll see how valued I am. I'll give to others, knowing that I, too, will receive.

One Day At A Time
On awakening let us think about the twenty-four hours ahead.
We consider our plans for the day. Before we begin, we ask God
to direct our thinking, especially asking that it be divorced from
self-pity, dishonest or self-seeking motives. Under these conditions
we can employ our mental faculties with assurance, for after all
God gave us brains to use. Our thought-life will be placed on a
much higher plane when our thinking is cleared of wrong motives.

Thought to Ponder
Prayer asks the question. Meditation listens for the answer.

Daily Motivation
Excerpt of The Daily Motivator
by Ralph Marston
One thing you can be certain of, is uncertainty. Life is always changing, and sometimes those changes come quickly, from out of nowhere.
Yet you have the good fortune of being highly adaptable. You are so skilled at adapting that you often transform negative developments into positive outcomes.
That’s why you can recall many times when things worked out much better than you first thought they would. You were able to successfully adapt.
What can you do when life surprises you? You can surprise life back, in ways that support your dreams, goals, values, and all you love.
Whenever the situation changes, step back and take a good, clear, updated look at reality. Commit yourself to finding a positive path through the world as it is, that leads toward what you value most.
It’s not always easy, yet it’s something you’ve been doing successfully your whole life. Adapt, and surprise life back with how well you can do so.
