Today's Gift
It is a cheap generosity which promises the future in compensation for the present. ~J. A. Spender
Living in this moment is all we really have. We are constantly bombarded with advice to live for the future, but it perpetually exists beyond our grasp like the carrot tempting the donkey. We are told to be mindful of our career paths, to save for the future, and to sacrifice now for later rewards. We put off spending time with our family, but later they are no longer the same. We postpone seeing friends now and discover later we have lost our relationships.
Of course, we can't be foolish about our future. We need to make some plans and delay some immediate pleasures. But for now, we can only have a rapport with ourselves and others and experience life in this moment. The present is the only time when anything can happen, any change can occur. This moment is like a fresh, cool breeze. The rest exists only in our imaginations or memories.
May I feel the exhilaration of being alive in this moment and maintain a balance in my perspective today.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day
Keep It Simple
Nonresistance, ironically, may be a posture we struggle with. Nonresistance means surrendering the ego absolutely. For many of us, the ego, particularly disguised as false pride, spurred us on to struggle after struggle. "Can't they see I'm right?" we moaned, and our resistance only created more of itself. Conversely, flowing with life, "bubbling" with the ripples, giving up our ego, releases from us an energy that heals the situation that smoothes the negative vibrations in our path. Peace comes to us. We will find serenity each time we willingly humble ourselves.
Action for the Day: Resistance is more familiar. Nonresistance means growth and peace. I'll try for serenity today.

One Day At A Time
Many of us said to our Maker, as we understood Them:
"Higher Power, I offer myself to Thee—to build with me and to do with me
as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better
do Thy will. Take away my difficulties, that victory over them may
bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and
Thy Way of life. May I do Thy will always!"
We thought well before taking this step making sure we were ready;
that we could at last abandon ourselves utterly to Them.

Daily Motivation
Excerpt of The Daily Motivator
by Ralph Marston
Would you like to experience yourself living today at your highest level of fulfillment? Then make yourself useful.
Even the most luxurious luxury gets tedious and boring after a short while. Don’t let yourself settle for mere opulence, overconsumption and overindulgence.
Instead, put your skills, your knowledge, your discipline, your competence and persistence to use. Figure out what you can do to make a positive difference, and then do it.
There are things you are passionate about, people you love, ideas you believe in. Engage that passion, that love, that belief in worthwhile endeavors.
No matter what burdens you face, or how much or how little you have, one thing is always true. You can instantly make your life better by working to make life better for others.
Lift yourself far above the dreary indifference that saps life out of your spirit. Make yourself useful, and enjoy the fulfilling life that you deserve to give, and to live.
