Today's Gift
A person has made at least a start on discovering the meaning of human life when they plant shade trees under which they know full well they will never sit. —D. Elton Trueblood
Our lives are enriched by the contributions of those who lived before us. Many people gave more than they ever took from society, and now we enjoy the rewards. Some people were fired with a spirit to beautify the world and planted trees that will live for 200 years. Others wrote music that speaks to us from another generation, and others established a government that guides our principles of justice. They gave so much because they knew they were a part of their community and the world.
Most of us cannot make the great contributions that will make us famous, but we enrich our lives when we contribute freely to improving our community and the world. We do that when we simply say hello to our neighbor, when we serve on a volunteer cleanup committee for a local park, or share our talents and experiences with the world . We too have beautified and contributed to the world, and that gives us a feeling of peace and self-respect.
Today, I will appreciate all that comes freely to me from others, and I will give what I can to make the world a better place.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day
Keep It Simple
Comparisons we make of ourselves to other people do destruction far greater than our conscious minds are aware of. Positioning ourselves or them on the "beloved pedestal" prevents the equality in relationships that offers each person the freedom to be solely their self.
Comparisons in which we are the losers darken the moment, cut us off from the actual rhythms of that moment. The consequences can be grave. Within any moment might be the opportunity we've awaited, the opportunity to achieve a particular dream. We must not miss our opportunities.
Each life is symbolized by a particular set of footprints in the snow. How wonderful and how freeing to know that we each offer something uniquely our own. We need never compete to be noticed. Each of us is guaranteed recognition for what we contribute, because it is offered by us alone.
Envy eats at us; it interferes with all of our interactions. It possesses all of our thoughts, caging us, denying us the freedom to achieve that can be ours.
Action for the Day: I will look with love on others. I will free them and myself to be all we are capable of becoming.

One Day At A Time
Though we did not like their symptoms and the way these disturbed
us, they, like ourselves, were sick too. We asked our Higher Power to help us
show them the same tolerance, pity, and patience that we would
cheerfully grant a sick friend. When a person offended we said to
ourselves, "This is a sick person. How can I be helpful to them?
Higher Power save me from being angry. Thy will be done."

Daily Motivation
Excerpt of The Daily Motivator
by Ralph Marston
Your ego is ever anxious to react to whatever comes your way. Yet there is always a much more powerful and effective course of action.
Instead of responding with your ego, respond to life with your heart. Instead of allowing your actions to be driven by petty, superficial concerns, let those actions come from the center of your being.
Supporting the demands of your ego can quickly use up all your energy, time and resources. In contrast, listening to and living out the yearnings of your true self will bring your life an ever-increasing abundance.
Ego will entice you with the promise of pleasure but will always end up robbing you of real joy. Ego gives you only a hollow image that can all too easily be shattered into nothing.
The more you tune out the noisy ranting of your ego, the more you’ll touch the deep and awesome value of your true self. The more completely you leave your ego behind, the more power your efforts will have.
Respond with your heart. And live true to the unique, authentic and valuable person you are.
