Today's Gift

You can never be true to others, if you keep on lying to yourself. ― Gift Gugu Mona

Being Honest with Ourselves

Our relationship with ourselves is the most important relationship we need to maintain. The quality of that relationship will determine the quality of our other relationships.

When we can tell ourselves how we feel, and accept our feelings, we can tell others.

When we can accept what we want and need, we will be ready to have our wants and needs met.

When we can accept what we think and believe, and accept what's important to us, we can relay this to others.

When we learn to take ourselves seriously, others will too.

When we learn to chuckle at ourselves, we will be ready to laugh with others.

When we have learned to trust ourselves, we will be trustworthy and ready to trust.

When we can be grateful for who we are, we will have achieved self-love.

When we have achieved self-love and accepting our wants and needs, we will be ready to give and receive love.

When we've learned to stand on our own two feet, we're ready to stand next to someone.

Today, I will focus on having a good relationship with myself.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Keep It Simple

Normally, we do not so much look at things as overlook them. ~Alan Watts

As we live our very busy lives we might say, "How full and rich my life is!" But are we stopping long enough to look, to take in experiences, digest them, and grow from them? Or is our attention always focused upon the next event? Are we running from one thing to another, never truly being present in the current moment?

For spiritual deepening, many of us do not need to enrich the events in our lives as much as we need to simplify and quiet ourselves. We need to slow down and look at what is here. At a banquet, we might appreciate a few fine foods served in a tranquil atmosphere more fully than a lavish variety served in a frenzied atmosphere. For today, we are not able to stop the hectic pace of the world, but we can slow ourselves down and notice and reflect upon our experiences. Then they will have meaning and value for us.

Action for the Day: Today, I will slow down. I will notice what my experiences are and give myself time to look.

One Day At A Time

Avoiding Amends
The temptation to skip the more humiliating and dreaded meetings
that still remain may be great. We will often manufacture plausible
excuses for dodging these issues entirely. Or we may just
procrastinate, telling ourselves the time is not yet, when in reality we
have already passed up many a fine chance to right a serious wrong.
Let's not talk prudence while practicing evasion.
- Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, (Step Nine) p. 85

Thought to Ponder
It is the highest form of self-respect to admit mistakes
and to make amends for them.

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator

Sincerely love
by Ralph Marston

Let go of the need to desire what the world says you should desire. Let yourself truly enjoy being who you are and living richly in the moment you’re in.

Worldly fame and fortune are mere artifacts of the things that really matter. Choose to love what you sincerely love, without the unnecessary pressure of having to impress anyone.

You don’t need permission, or certain specific circumstances, to be beautiful. You already are uniquely beautiful and worthy of a magnificent life.

Go ahead and live that life now, right where you are, with what you have, doing whatever you’re doing. Instead of placing arbitrary judgments on your situation, give your own profound love and meaning to it.

There is no limit to the joy you can create and the fulfillment you can experience on this very day. Everywhere you’ll discover beauty to be found and opportunities for living with true richness.

Stop fretting about what everyone else might do or say or think. Give your energy to all that you sincerely love, and live the great, wonderful fortune that is already within you.
