Today's Gift
Learn what you are and be such. ~Pindar
The most precious gift we can give those closest to us is honesty. Yet we often hide our true selves from friends, fearing we won't be accepted or loved if we let them see the real us. Often, we show parts of ourselves that hide who we really are. We have often heard ourselves or others say, "My parents would just die if … ," or, "I'll lose their friendship if..."
If we hide too much behind false images, we run the risk of losing track of what is real and what is false. We become actors instead of real people, trying to please mom and dad, our grandparents, our siblings, or our friends.
When we conquer our fear of letting others in, we are able to see ourselves honestly. When we discover that others accept us as we are, we can accept and love ourselves. To know oneself is to know a person of value.
What part of me have I been hiding?

Twenty-Four Hours a Day
Keep It Simple
What does this saying mean: “To thine own self be true”? Hadn’t we thought
only of ourselves before recovery? The answer is no. That wasn’t the real us.
Each of us lost touch with our real self because of our addiction. We lost our
goals, our feelings, our values. We chased the high. In this way, we lost our
spirit. We became addicts.
With sobriety, we find ourselves again---and it feels great! We stop playing a
role and become ourselves---and it’s wonderful. We follow our dreams and
beliefs, not some addictive wild goose chase. We are again free to be ourselves.
Thank you. Higher Power.
Prayer for the Day: Today, I pray to be myself, to know all of me. I can trust
myself because my spirit is good.
Action for the Day: Today, I’ll pray: “thine own self be true.”

One Day At A Time
Our Intelligence
We are certain that our intelligence, backed by willpower, can rightly control
our inner lives and guarantee us success in the world we live in. This brave
philosophy, wherein each person plays God, sounds good in the speaking,
but it still has to meet the acid test: how well does it actually work?
One good look in the mirror ought to be answer enough for any alcoholic.

Thought to Ponder
Pride in my intelligence blinded me to how much I did not know.

Daily Motivation
Excerpt of The Daily Motivator
Let your spirit soar
by Ralph Marston
Your spirit yearns to soar. Find a way, often, to let it do so.
Make all your effort and trouble worth all the effort and trouble. Fall deeply in love with being alive, in a fresh new way, again and again.
Step away from the silly desire to be impressed with yourself. Simply allow yourself to be yourself, to experience the wonder, the magic, the miracle, of existence.
Take time to be so fully alive that you lose all thoughts of yourself. Open yourself to see, to hear, to feel the moment for what it is, which is everything.
Give your spirit space to roam, to explore, to enjoy, to play. Know how good, and right, and empowering it feels too simply be.
Inject some new, living energy into your life. Make the time, provide the opportunity, to let your spirit soar.
