Today's Gift
Always think of what you have to do as easy and it will become so. ~Emile Corie
How we think about the activities before us is very important. If we think cleaning the garage is hard, dirty, and no chance for fun, that's just how it will feel. We'll be tired before we even begin. However, if we approach it like a treasure hunt, expecting to rediscover some long-forgotten treasures, we'll enjoy the task. In fact, it will feel like a game.
The thoughts we carry in our minds determine whether our tasks are fun or not. What good fortune it is that we can control those thoughts. If we approach an assignment for school or a job believing that we're able to do it, that it's not too hard for us, we'll finish with ease. Our thoughts determine our successes. In this way, our lives are in our own hands.
How much better can I make my life today?

Twenty-Four Hours a Day
Keep It Simple
Choice of attention - to pay attention to this and ignore that - is to the inner life what choice of action is to the outer. In both cases, a man is responsible for his choice and must accept the consequences. --W. H. Auden
Many of us have said, "I can't help myself!" when we tried to stop our constant thinking about other people or their behavior. "I know it's not good for me, but what can I do when they keep acting that way?"
Let us think of ourselves as living in a house with many windows. At each window is a different view, and within each view are many things to catch our attention. Perhaps there are some people, some traffic, some buildings, a horizon, and some trees. If we always go to the same window and focus on the same object, we are not using all our choices. We may have overlooked some things in our lives that need attention. There are many things we are totally powerless over. Our power exists in changing the focus of our attention.
Action for the Day: Today, I will notice where I am choosing to pay attention. I pray for guidance in being aware of my options.

One Day At A Time
Fearful
At heart we had all been abnormally fearful. It mattered little
whether we had sat on the shore of life drinking ourselves into
forgetfulness or had plunged in recklessly and willfully beyond
our depth and ability. The result was the same—all of us had
nearly perished in a sea of alcohol. But today, in well-matured
A.A.'s, these distorted drives have been restored to something
like their true purpose and direction.

Thought to Ponder
Situations I fear are rarely as bad as the fear itself.

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator
Make sure it matters
by Ralph Marston
What if many of your problems are problems solely because you think they are? Could you perhaps bring yourself to think differently about them?
Might there be things you get upset about just because you’ve decided they upset you? Imagine how your quality of life could improve by simply deciding differently.
Certainly there are problems you must solve, issues you must address, as you make your way through life. Yet there are also situations that mostly waste your time and energy, that are best just left alone.
Before investing yourself in anything, step back a little bit and take a clear, dispassionate look. Ask yourself if it really matters, if it’s worth precious time and attention, if it’s an opportunity to make a difference.
Get away from the habit of reacting and responding merely because it’s the way you always have. Take positive control of your intentions, of the things you spend your life attending to.
Before you hurry, before you worry, before you create new stress, make sure it matters. Give the most to life, get the most from life, by staying focused on what’s important.
