Today's Gift

I want, by understanding myself, to understand others. ~Katherine Mansfield

Growing up to be the best people we can be is a lifelong process. As teenagers, we may have thought that twenty-one would be a magic year for us because then we would become adults. We'd be grown up and able to handle any problems that came along, if any did.

But the older we get, the more we realize that growing up is a process that never ends. We are always becoming the people we are capable of being. We're always learning new things about ourselves, and in that process, we're always coming to new understandings about other people and how we can get along with them.

How wonderful that life always offers us room to grow! It makes new discoveries possible all through our lives, and ensures us that we will always have something to offer.

What discovery have I made just today?

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Keep It Simple

Every time I close the door on Reality, it comes in through the window. --Ashleigh Brilliant

In the past many of us closed the door on the reality of our abuse of others or ourselves. We gave explanations, but our words more often hid the truth than revealed it. The chaos in our lives was reality coming in the window. Many men have come into this program priding themselves on their honesty, but not aware of how dishonest they were with themselves.

Honesty is a pillar of spiritual awakening. There is no growth without it, and it begins with ourselves. We do not define the truth, we accept it, we surrender to it. The truth may not feel good; it can even be painful. This is the pain of birth - the rebirth of a real man. And the promise of this day is the reward of having our integrity and the peace of self-acceptance.

Action for the Day: Today, I will surrender to the truth. I will accept the reality, which presses for attention in my life.

One Day At A Time

Willingness
Once we have placed the key of willingness in the lock and have the door
ever so slightly open, we find that we can always open it some more.
Though self-will may slam it shut again, as it frequently does, it will
always respond the moment we again pick up the key of willingness.

Thought to Ponder

Daily Motivation

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator

Great potential
by Ralph Marston

Right now you face a great challenge. It is also a profound opportunity.

You must choose, in this moment, from an endless menu of possibilities, what to do. Though it may seem trivial, of little consequence, what you choose will change your life, will change the whole world, forever.

How do you narrow the possibilities, how can you know you’re making the best choice? Choose with love for your own potential, love for your family and community, love for beauty, for truth, for a positive and beneficial future.

It is not an easy choice, and once you make it you must make another, and another. Yet with those continuing choices, made with love and with respect for their power, you can reach higher than you could possibly now imagine.

Life is dangerous, complicated, frustrating, all too often arbitrary and unreasonable. Yet right now, with even the smallest positive, purposeful choice, you can transcend all that, pushing back the darkness, creating new and hopeful light.

Make the choice now to embrace your great potential, to give your love and effort to the best that can be. Take up the challenge, answer the call of this moment, and live the great life you are capable of living.
