Today's Gift
It has been said that addiction and codependency are problems of power. Recovery certainly calls us to admit the limits of our power. Yet, to reach for power seems to come from the deepest part of our nature. If this is so, can it be all bad? Men have used power in many ways for the good of all people. We have been defenders, protectors, and active community servants. At our best, we have taken strong stands for what was right.
We need not shun all power, but rather we learn to use it wisely. Our blindness to the limitations of power created great problems in our lives. Then we learned our first lessons about powerlessness. As humble a person, we know we can be wrong, but we cannot be passive and still continue to grow.
Phenomenon of Craving
They took a drink a day or so prior to the date, and then
the phenomenon of craving at once became paramount to all
other interests so that the important appointment was not met.
These people were not drinking to escape; they were drinking to
overcome a craving beyond their mental control.

we have found freedom from our fatal obsession.

Spend some time with yourself
I'd like to get away from earth awhile. And then come back to it and begin again. -- Robert Frost
Do we think it's weak to need a break? Do we ignore the need to recharge our batteries? Responsibility for our own lives requires us to recognize the need to restore our energy. Some of us unhealthily escape from the world by using food, or drugs, or spending money, or being preoccupied with another person.
When we have the ability to be with ourselves, we can take a break from the world and come back restored. This meditation time generates more energy for our lives. Recreation with friends, a walk, a movie, or a concert does the same. Taking responsibility to get away is a good cure for self-pity and exhaustion.
Today, I will be aware of my need to restore my energy.

Daily Motivation
Excerpt of The Daily Motivator
Spend some time with yourself
by Ralph Marston
There’s someone in your life who can be very valuable to you. Someone who can offer you excellent advice. Someone who understands you. Someone with whom you can easily communicate. That person is YOU.
Unfortunately, most of us don’t devote very much time to being with ourselves. We’re too busy with the pressing day-to-day concerns of life. We’re too busy worried about what other people want, or think, or do.
Many people never realize their greatness because they get sidetracked by life. They forget about their dreams. Don’t let this happen to you. Get in the habit of spending quality time with yourself on a daily basis. Remind yourself of your purpose in life, of your dreams and ambitions.
Listen to your own thoughts. Explore your feelings. Indulge your ideas and your fantasies.
You are your greatest asset. There’s a wonderful, unique person inside of you. Someone who has many things to offer the world. Get to know yourself. Become the person you were meant to be.
