Today's Gift

You were born to be real not to be perfect. --Anonymous

Self -Empowerment

You can think. You can make good decisions. You can make choices that are right for you.

Yes, we all make mistakes from time to time. But we are not mistakes.

We can make a new decision that takes new information into account.

We can change our mind from time to time. That's our right too.

We don't have to be intellectuals to make good choices. In recovery, we have a gift and a goal available to each of us. The gift is called wisdom.

Other people can think too. And that means we no longer have to feel responsible for other people's decisions.

That also means we are responsible for our choices.

We can reach out to others for feedback. We can ask for information. We can take opinions into account. But it is our task to make our own decisions. It is our pleasure and right to have our own opinions.

We are each free to embrace and enjoy the treasure of our own mind, intellect, and wisdom.

Today, I will treasure the gift of my mind. I will do my own thinking, make my own choices, and value my opinions. I will be open to what others think, but I will take responsibility for myself. I will ask for and trust that the Divine Wisdom is guiding me.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Keep It Simple

I was so mixed up I tried to be perfect at avoiding perfectionism! - Kathryn G.

Oh, the struggle with perfectionism! Of all the clubs we can use to beat ourselves with, that one may be the worst. With all the "musts," "must nots," "shoulds," and "should nots" we demand of ourselves it's a wonder we can get through some days at all.

One person said they called one of they cats by the other cat's name and as a result spent the next two hours depressed. Most of us don't go that far with perfectionism, but we still make unreasonable demands of ourselves.

The "one year" test is a good one for perfectionism: "If I (fill in the blank), what difference will it make in a year?" Some things will be important in a year. Making meetings, contacting our sponsor, communing with our Higher Power, and being honest with ourselves and others are all important. And we should be concerned when we fail. But more often we punish ourselves for the little failures - forgetting someone's name or saying the "wrong thing." These are the "crimes" we remember the most. But now we can learn to forgive ourselves and concentrate on what's really important: our new lives in recovery.

Action for the Day: Today, help me remember what's important. Help me forgive myself for minor mistakes.

One Day At A Time

New Power
More and more we became interested in seeing what we could
contribute to life. As we felt new power flow in, as we enjoyed
peace of mind, as we discovered we could face life successfully,
as we became conscious of our Higher Power's presence, we began to lose our
fear of today, tomorrow or the hereafter. We were reborn.
- Alcoholics Anonymous, "How It Works," p. 63

Thought to Ponder
The power within me is far greater than any fear before me.

Amazing things
by Ralph Marston

You can do amazing things when you put your mind to it. You can do amazing things when you put some time and effort into it.

You can do amazing things when you allow yourself to express your authentic purpose. Today is your opportunity to do amazing things.

Stop assuming you can’t do it. Get busy proving you can.

Yes, circumstances are limiting and there’s only a certain amount of time. And yes, you can get it done anyway.

Get focused, get started and keep going. Experience the thrill and satisfaction as you rack up new achievements.

Enjoy using your time for more than just getting by. You can do amazing things, so get on it right now.
