Today's Gift

Everything is so dangerous that nothing is really very frightening. --Gertrude Stein

Life is full of dangers and risks and challenges. We can choose to meet them fearfully or in a spirit of welcome. To choose fear, to say, "I won't take that risk because I might lose," is to prevent ourselves from ever winning. If we welcome the danger, the risk, or the challenge, we acknowledge that life is made up of losses as well as victories, of gains as well as pain.

Life holds the dangers as well as the rewards. We choose how we will act. Sometimes we may feel trapped in a cycle of fearfulness. If we examine our own part, will we find that we are neglecting to take a balanced view? Perhaps, through a fear of losing, we are missing many chances for satisfaction.

I will remember: I have the power to choose what my attitude will be toward this day's offerings.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Keep It Simple

It was football time, apple time, harvest time, hunting time, and school time. Footsteps quickened. It was exciting to be in transition. It seemed more like the beginning of something than like the end of it. --Paul Gruchow

Some days seem filled with the exciting energy of change. They are like walking on a bridge from one time period to the next. In the fall, our senses are filled with messages of change. Trees tell us it is happening. So do football games, and the cool chill in the morning air.

As summer wanes and winter approaches, we may need to grieve for what we leave behind before greeting what comes next. The changes we experience in recovery bring similar responses. We grieve the loss of our old friends, the bottle, the food binge, the romantic thrill, or the excitement of gambling or spending. We are able to grieve our losses because we accept them. We have chosen them. Now we move to the next season of our lives.

Today's Action: As I experience the circle of seasons outside me, I will be grateful for the ongoing flow of change within.

One Day At A Time

Strength and Direction
Although these reparations take innumerable forms, there are some
general principles which we find guiding. Reminding ourselves that
we have decided to go to any lengths to find a spiritual experience,
we ask that we be given strength and direction to do the right thing,
no matter what the personal consequences may be.

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator

Make it your choice
by Ralph Marston

Whether you have chosen this situation or not, proceed as though you have. Make the decision to choose it now, and to continue doing so.

No matter what the circumstance, feeling stuck will not improve your performance. Let it be your choice to be where you already are, and find power in that choice.

Whatever or whomever may be to blame, assume full responsibility. Put yourself in control by making yourself responsible for improving the situation.

It’s a waste of your time to speculate about how things could have been different. Invest your time taking action that will transform the situation in a positive way.

Your energy is best spent making progress, and not harboring resentment. Make it your choice to be here now, doing all you can to add beneficial value.

You are in this situation to make a difference. Put all your focus on identifying the best possibilities and bringing them to life.
