Today's Gift
All things pass... Patience attains all that it strives for. -- St. Teresa of Avila
Some days, it seems like our struggles will never end. The pain, the loss, the heartaches, the failures we can recount them all. Where is the strength to go on?
What if we began our day by acknowledging that all things pass? That given time, effort, and patience, we can accept or accomplish most anything? But patience does not mean complacency. On the contrary, each day requires a new attitude, a new outlook that in time generates its own positive energy for growth and change.
We need strength and patience not only in the difficult moments, but in the easier ones - the days of comfort when things seem to be going almost too well.
Soon, we can look back across the months and see growth. As the skills of the dancer or the carpenter increase with time and patience, so do our skills in life. As we grow, becoming ever more patient, we become ever more in tune with our Higher Power and the promise of a new life.
Today grant me the patience to live in the moment. Help me be willing to believe that all things pass...

Twenty-Four Hours a Day
Keep It Simple
We’re going to have tough times. Maybe we don’t get a pay raise. Maybe we get fired. Whatever happens, don’t use alcohol or other drugs. Whatever happens, keep working the program. Our program will never turn its back on us. When tough times come, we can always turn to our meetings and sponsors. We’re lucky because we don’t have to face hard times alone. We have no reason to give up because our program will never give up.
So, pull closer to your program when times get tough. Call a friend and talk about your problems. Take in an extra meeting. All of this keeps us from turning our backs on life.
Prayer for the Day: Higher Power, help me believe that tough times are a chance to get closer to You.
Action for the Day: The program will always be there for me in tough times. Today, I’ll make a list of what to do to stay sober when tough times come. I’ll put the list in my Big Book.

One Day At A Time
Besides a seeming inability to accept much on faith, we often found ourselves
handicapped by obstinacy, sensitiveness, and unreasoning prejudice.
Many of us have been so touchy that even casual reference to spiritual things
made us bristle with antagonism. This sort of thinking had to be abandoned.
Though some of us resisted, we found no great difficulty in casting aside such feelings.

Transform disappointment
by Ralph Marston
Life will sometimes disappoint you. Embrace the disappointment, and transform it into inspiration.
When you feel disappointment, it means you know things could have been, and can be, better. Take hold of that vision, and work on bringing it fully to life.
Disappointment enables you to experience firsthand what you don’t want. Use that experience to develop new clarity about what you do want.
No disappointment ever has to be permanent. Take what is positive, informative, and motivating in each disappointment, and leave the rest behind.
Look for opportunities to channel disappointment into positive action. Though you can’t do anything about what has already happened, you can choose what you do with it.
Feel the disappointment, then gather all the energy in that feeling and put it to good use. You’ll soon leave the disappointment far behind as you move forward to do great things.
