Today's Gift

"Oh, 'tis love, 'tis love, that makes the world go round! Somebody said," Alice whispered, "that it's done by everybody minding their own business. Ah well! It means much the same thing." —Lewis Carroll

No one helps a caterpillar become a butterfly. First it must crawl through the leaves as a many-legged creature, and then it weaves its own cocoon. Nature does its slow, daily work inside the cocoon and one day a butterfly emerges - and each butterfly is a different shape and color. No other creature can step in and speed up this process without hurting the butterfly.

Sometimes we humans confuse love with playing the part of a God. We think we can speed up the natural growth of people around us. We interfere by telling them to do what we think best.

The greatest love we can offer is to accept our loved ones the way they are. We need to remember that each caterpillar weaves a cocoon in its own time and becomes a butterfly in its own way. The wisdom of the universe is greater than our own.

How will I show my acceptance of others today?

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Keep It Simple

Life has lessons to teach. We can remember them and share them with others, or we can forget them and have to learn them again. --Jan Pishok

What we are destined to learn in this life will keep presenting itself until "contact" has been made. Each experience is a minute part of the big picture that's unfolding. We will receive the information we need, again and again if necessary. Let's give up our fear about where we are going and how we'll get there. We are in caring, capable hands. We will get to the right destination on time.

In this program we are invited to share with others what our experiences have taught us. What better way to recall, and thus relearn, what we have been taught, than to tell another about it. Every Twelve Step program is specifically designed to simplify our lives. The Steps coach us through every situation, and they never shame us for needing reminders of our lessons.

Action for the Day: I will help others through sharing my own experiences today. In the process, I'll recapture the essence of the lessons I have learned.

One Day At A Time

Transformed
Until now, our lives have been largely devoted to running from pain and problems.
We fled from them as from a plague. We never wanted to deal with the fact of suffering.
Escape via the bottle was always our solution. Character-building through suffering might
be all right for saints, but it certainly didn't appeal to us. Then, in A.A., we looked and listened.
Everywhere we saw failure and misery transformed by humility into priceless assets.

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator

Positive footprints
by Ralph Marston

You cannot go backwards in time to undo what’s already been done. So before you go forward, consider the consequences of your actions.

You won’t be able to reclaim time that has already passed. As each moment comes, remind yourself to make good and meaningful use of it.

Regret is a terribly helpless feeling because there’s no way to change what you have already done. Keep that in mind as you make each choice.

Once you utter a thoughtless comment, it will forever be a part of what you have said. All the apologies and regrets in the world will not change that.

You can only move forward through time. As you do, take care to leave positive, beneficial footprints at every point along the way.

Make your choices the ones you’ll be pleased to live with. Speak and act to make your future self, and everyone else, thankful for all you do.
