Today's Gift

In order to arrive at possessing everything, desire to possess nothing. - St. John of the Cross

Expectations can cause havoc in our daily living. We all have a basic right to be treated with dignity and respect, but that doesn't mean life will always go our way. The twists and turns of life often carry us up rivers of disappointment to shores we never chose to visit.

Facing life as fully involved travelers, without expectations about outcomes, is perhaps the brightest way to travel. Making plans without setting up for certain outcomes makes us flexible people who learn to go with the flow. It has been said that there is a direct proportion between our level of expectation and the amount of stress we have in our lives. Trusting the results to a larger plan allows us to relax and enjoy the adventure of the journey.

As we grow closer to our Higher Power, we find we can let go. We are more peaceful and confident, less frantic and controlling. Trusting that our Higher Power will protect us, no matter what we encounter on our journey, helps us face the future with a calm and loving heart.

Today let me relax into life and let go of my expectations.

Secrets of the New Happiness

Success in living.
Most of us know whether other people are truly happy. What's odd, however, is that we don't often try to practice the things that bring happiness to others. Often, the happiness we're striving for is really a form of excitement___  trying to be continuously stimulated so as not to be bored or depressed.

Excitement does not create happiness. We find true happiness when we learn to serve others in right ways; that is, without demanding their gratitude or some other recognition. We also find true happiness in self-acceptance___ being generally satisfied with our lot in life and grateful for the self-improvement we've found. We find happiness, too, in keeping occupied with useful activities that place demands on our energies and abilities.

There is no such thing as a happy alcoholic who is still drinking. There are also recovering people who have not yet found happiness. But the program unlocks the happiness, and we do have members whose happiness is an example to others.

Action for the Day: I can be happy one day at a time. I will make the choice to be happy today, and to let tomorrow come in its own time. Nothing can interfere with today's happiness.

One Day At A Time

Fellowship of the Spirit
Abandon yourself to your Higher Power as you understand Them. Admit your faults to Them and to your fellows. Clear away the wreckage of your past. Give freely of what
you find and join us. We shall be with you in the Fellowship of the Spirit, and
you will surely meet some of us as you trudge the Road of Happy Destiny.

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator

You decide
by Ralph Marston

You can make your experience of life today better than the life you experienced yesterday. You can make conditions in your world tomorrow more favorable than conditions in your world today.

Is life getting better or worse, more fulfilling or more desperate? That is for you to decide, to determine, and to implement with the way you live.

The way your life unfolds is not dictated by some predetermined, immutable script. The story of your life is written largely by the choices you make in every moment.

Sure, you are subject to many forces and influences beyond your control. Yet things don’t just magically get better, and neither do things just cruelly and randomly get worse.

What you do, day in and day out, plays the major role. Your attitude, your thoughts, your actions, your willingness to persist, your desire to embrace responsibility, all form the quality of the life you experience.

Whatever the trends, whatever the zeitgeist, your life gets better or worse mostly because of what you do with it. You know what works, what improves your world, so keep reminding yourself to do it.
