Today's Gift

Good days don’t have to be daunting – they can be just that – a good day. Enjoy it! Stop looking or waiting of the proverbial other shoe to drop. -Sherry Gaba

Good feelings can become a habitual part of our life.

There is absolutely no virtue in the unnecessary suffering, which many of us have felt for much of our life. We don't have to allow others to make us miserable, and we don't have to make ourselves miserable.

A good day does not have to be the calm before the storm. That's an old way of thinking we learned in dysfunctional systems.

A good day or a good feeling doesn't mean we're in denial. We don't have to wreck our good times by obsessively searching for or creating a problem.

Enjoying our good days doesn't mean we're being disloyal to loved ones who are having problems. We don't have to make ourselves feel guilty because other people aren't having a good day. We don't have to make ourselves miserable to be like them. They can have their day and their feelings; we can have ours.

A good feeling is to be enjoyed. More than we can imagine, good days are ours for the asking.

Today, I will let myself enjoy what is good. I don't have to wreck my good day or good feeling; I don't have to let others spoil it either.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Keep It Simple

The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed. --Chamfort

When we are adrift in our addiction, we take ourselves very seriously and often lose contact with reality. We become lost in fantasy and obsession. Life becomes joyless because we can't see beyond our addiction, and we find no real satisfaction there. We lose touch with the joy and humor of life, and we find that everything around us and inside us is grim and dark.

One of the many positive signs of our return to health and sanity is our recovery of the gift of laughter. Each day as we gain more energy and zest of life, we move in to the world and find many things that are humorous, in ourselves and in other people. We laugh and find we are no longer alone.

Laughter is the mark of a healthy, happy human being. Laughter shows that we are truly a part of the human community. It is a sign that we are alive and on the way to recovery.

Action for the Day: Today I will grateful that I can laugh again and feel in touch with myself and others.

One Day At A Time

Faith
There is, however, a vast amount of fun about it all.
I suppose some would be shocked at our seeming worldliness and levity.
But just underneath there is deadly earnestness.
Faith has to work twenty-four hours a day in and through us, or we perish.
- Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 16
Thought to Ponder
It is when you act on faith that you actually have it.

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator

Quality thoughts
by Ralph Marston

Thoughts can be poisonous, or they can be nourishing. What kind of thoughts have you been thinking?

What if every time you had a thought, that thought became reality? Would you be careful about choosing your thoughts?

Although your thoughts on their own do not magically become real, everything you create does begin with a thought. The quality of your life mirrors the quality of your thoughts.

Your thoughts can enable you, empower you, encourage and energize you, or they can hold you back and keep you stuck. Fortunately, you choose the thoughts that fill your mind.

Though thoughts can seem to be fleeting and inconsequential, your thoughts are always leading you in one direction or another. Choose those thoughts that lead toward the kind of life you wish to live.

Reality is what it is, yet what you make of reality is based on how you think about it. Think positive, substantive, meaningful thoughts and follow where they lead.
