Today's Gift

We are doomed to live in an overwhelmingly tragic and demonic world. —Ernest Becker

Life is difficult. We never reach the point where our path is free of obstacles and hardships. And regardless of how much we grow, nothing changes the fact that death is still there for us. As painful and hard as it is, life also is deeply meaningful and worthwhile when we submit to its reality and live in a spiritual way.

After we stop living in denial and accept the hard facts about life, we see that we need each other. We need relationships to stay sane. We need to pull together and support one another the way people do in difficult times. Rugged individualism isn't always good for real people in the real world. We need relationships so we can celebrate and make music and encourage one another. We need relationships so we can laugh and make jokes and tell our personal stories. And we need to stand together to oppose the destructive forces around us.

High Power help me learn to have relationships with my brothers and sisters of this world.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Keep It Simple

How easy the breath that kills a flame,
How hard to kindle that light again.
Cold words kill and kind words kindle,
By words withheld a dream may dwindle.
--Joan Walsh Anglund

How we treat the people we live with affects the happiness of our family. Just as a breath can blow out a flame, a mean remark can cast a shadow across a brother or sister's heart. People of all ages have left dreams behind because no one encouraged them. They are like candles snuffed out.

On the other hand, if we see a friend or family member feeling good about something they have done, we can learn to be happy for them. If we notice their excitement and encourage them with kind and sincere words, it will help their candle burn brighter. Sharing the happiness of others will make our own candles burn brighter, and it always feels good when we receive kind words ourselves.

Action for the Day: I will find ways to bring light and warmth with my words today.

One Day At A Time

Meetings
In any meeting, anywhere, A.A.'s share experience, strength, and hope with each other,
in order to stay sober and help other alcoholics.
Modem-to-modem or face-to-face,
A.A.'s speak the language of the heart in all its power and simplicity.

Daily Motivation

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator

Build new goodness
by Ralph Marston

Some things you can control and influence, and other things you can’t. Yet you can always choose how to feel, what to think, and how to respond.

Fighting against what has already taken place, is useless. Put your energy, your focus, your unique creative brilliance into improving what comes next.

At times the ride will be slow and bumpy, and at other times it becomes smooth and easy. In all cases, in every moment, there is something beneficial you can do.

Fulfillment arises not from what life delivers to you, but from the actions you take to make life good. You always have the opportunity to care, to love, to make a difference.

Each moment arrives with a unique, never-before-tasted flavor. Instead of judging it or running from it, embrace it and build new goodness within it.

Build new goodness from the ups, the downs, the frustrations and joys. Build new goodness from it all.
