Today's Gift

Our problem is that we expect to feel secure.

Many of us have had past crises and problems, yet our worries and anxieties continue in the present. We believe that our situation causes our fears and we say, "If only things were different, I could relax." Yet even when everything is going well, we still get anxious that something unseen is amiss. When we are immersed in our fears, unable to let go and live life joyfully, we may become emotionally absent from ourselves and loved ones.

Our problem is not that life is insecure. Of course it is. Our problem is that we expect to feel secure. We put great energy into achieving control and having everything "just right," but quite naturally we end up without control. Then we think something is wrong. Instead, we can choose to turn our fears over to our Higher Power. We do that by talking about our fears, taking the steps we can, and trusting our Higher Power for the outcomes. Then we return to emotional contact in our relationships.

Tell someone something you fear and turn it over to your Higher Power.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Keep It Simple

Superficiality is the curse of our age. The doctrine of instant satisfaction is a primary spiritual problem. --Richard J. Foster

As we have reached for instant cures, one-minute answers, and quick highs, we have developed lifestyles that foreclosed deeper possibilities. For instance, when we fail to stay and resolve conflicts in a relationship, we miss the joys of a renewed understanding. Our spiritual development comes in steps, small but meaningful increments that build over a period of time. Many of us have not been patient men and our newfound spiritual life is teaching us that the quickest, most efficient answer isn't always best.

Today, our greatest temptation may be to grab for the fast solutions rather than allowing time for small but important steps to occur. When we are frustrated, it will help to remember the difficulty may lie in our insistence on a quick answer. Sometimes simply being true to ourselves and standing as a witness while the answer develops are all that is asked of us.

Action for the Day: I will have faith that time is on my side and it will teach me valuable things.

One Day At A Time

Beyond Human Aid
The alcoholic may say to themself in the most casual way, "It won’t burn me this time,
so here’s how!" Or perhaps they don’t think at all... ...When this sort of thinking
is fully established in an individual with alcoholic tendencies, they have probably
placed themself beyond human aid, and unless locked up, may die or go permanently insane.
These stark and ugly facts have been confirmed by legions of alcoholics throughout history.

Thought to Ponder
An alcoholic in their cups is an unlovely creature.

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator

One glorious morning
by Ralph Marston

Yesterday’s dark clouds make this morning’s sunshine brighter. Tomorrow, you’ll look back at today’s challenges with gratitude for having worked through them.

Suffering through a season of illness and pain will give you great appreciation for good health when it returns. The burdens of the present build new strength in you for the future.

If there had never been any darkness, light would be meaningless. You cannot fully experience how good life can be unless you’ve also known its difficulties.

Stand resolute when the hard times come, and take heart. Your experiences now are making the good times richer.

Yes, one glorious morning after the storm has passed, the sun will rise. As it warms your face, you’ll feel a newfound sense of determination and positive purpose.

Carry on, push forward through whatever may come. You’ll emerge from it better than you’ve ever been.
