Today's Gift
Excerpt of The Daily Motivator
The wild geese do not intend to cast their reflection; the water has no mind to receive their image. —Zenrin poem
There are moments which simply happen through no conscious intention or will on anyone's part. The image of an old person with a peaceful face, the smell of smoke rising from a chimney on a chilly night, the knowing look of recognition from a friend as we make a comment, the special feeling of a touch. These are spiritual moments because they reach a deeper part of our being. They are like a sliver in time set aside which nourishes our souls and adds serenity to our lives.
We grow when we learn to notice these kinds of moments. In our willfulness, we have often missed them before because we simply were not open to anything we weren't already looking for. This world is so much larger than the human mind. In recovery, we can take time to admire the beauty reflected around us.
Today, I will let the rest of life intrude upon my mind. I will let myself be nourished by what comes along.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day
Keep It Simple
This Mouse must give up one of the Mouse ways of seeing things in order that he may grow. --Hyemeyohsts Storm
There is an American Indian tale of a mouse who heard a roaring in his ears and set out to discover what it was. He encountered many animals who helped him on his way. Finally, the mouse had a chance to offer help to another. He gave away his eyes to help two other animals.
Without his sight, defenseless, he waited for the end. Soon he heard the sound eagles make when they dive for their prey. The next thing the mouse knew, he was flying. He could see all the splendor around him. Then he heard a voice say, "You have a new name. You are Eagle."
Like the mouse, we also feel something inside us we'd like to explore. That secret, like all others, has its answer hidden deep within us, yet right under our very nose. Often, we merely have to give up our eyes and see in a different way. When we do this, we are rewarded with a new kind of vision, one that lets us discover our true potential.
Action for the Day: Today I will allow myself to see things in a different way.

One Day At A Time
Combating Personal Dysfunctions
In our belief any scheme of combating our dysfunctions which proposes to shield the
sick person from temptation is doomed to failure. If the person tries to shield theirself
they may succeed for a time, but they usually wind up with a bigger explosion than ever.
We have tried these methods. These attempts to do the impossible have always failed.

Daily Motivation
Set an intention
by Ralph Marston
What are your intentions for this day? Are they clear, specific, meaningful, challenging, realistic?
Noise, distractions, excuses will come at you today from every direction. Shield yourself with resolute intentions, and enable yourself to get achievement done.
You’ve been amazed in the past at how much you can accomplish when you just decide to do it. Today, make sure you’ve decided exactly what you intend to do, and be amazed all over again.
Great power resides in your thoughts and actions, yet too often that power gets wasted and diluted. You deserve the benefits of focusing it all in a meaningful direction.
Set an intention, one that feels right, that’s beneficial for your world, for your life, in a way you care about. You know the things that must be done, and today is your opportunity to do them.
Give your highest purpose a way to express itself, a way to make a difference. Set an intention, and set about to get it done.
