Today's Gift
This is temporary; this is a normal part of recovery and healing. It may be the way things will be for a time, but not for long.
Keep working at recovery, and the trend will reverse. Before too long, things, and us, will be better than they were before. This time, the foundation will be solid.
Action for the Day: Higher Power, help me trust You and recovery, even when I have setbacks. Help me remember that the problems are temporary, and when they are solved, I will be on more solid ground.
Daily Reprieve
It is easy to let up on the spiritual program of action and rest on our laurels.
We are headed for trouble if we do, for alcohol is a subtle foe.
We are not cured of alcoholism. What we really have is a daily reprieve
contingent on the maintenance of our spiritual condition.
Every day is a day when we must carry the vision of our Higher Power’s will into all of our activities.
- Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 85
Thought to Ponder
The alcoholic is in no greater peril than when he takes sobriety for granted.

Get yourself through
by Ralph Marston
Wishing, complaining, begging and avoiding won’t do it. The way to get through it is to go through it.
If there’s something you’ve been putting off, put it back on and get it done. If there’s a problem that’s been chasing you, stop running, stop hiding and start solving.
You can be amazingly resourceful and effective when you want to be. Now is the time to want to be.
When the situation feels painful, imagine how great you will feel to get beyond it. Imagine, and then manifest your imagined outcome by doing what you must do.
There’s a light at the end of the tunnel, and its brightness comes from your efforts. Make those efforts, keep that light shining brightly and get yourself through to the other side.
You’ve made a positive difference many times before and you absolutely can do it again. Feel your purposeful power as it successfully pushes you through.
Look, the wind vane fluttering in the autumn breeze
Takes hold of certain things that cannot be held. --Feng Chih
When we think we are losing our grip, we have good reason to look up. Consider the moon suspended in the sky, how it continues to come and go, follows its natural law, and never really loses face. Consider the sun, the stars, the seasons, how they refuse to abandon us, to let go of their hold on our lives. And, come closer to home, we can marvel at the magic of small efficient things - the toaster and stove, the light in the room, the words in a good book that are permanent, faithful, and clear. We can consider how music, without saying a word, still speaks to us, and how a few friends, maybe miles away, continue to hang on to the strength of our small and faithful words.
We can keep in mind that we are part of a complex and loving system, and our grip can never be lost.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day
Keep It Simple
Life is a series of experiences, each one of which makes us bigger, even though sometimes it is hard to realize this. For the world was built to develop character, and we must learn that the setbacks and grieves which we endure help us in our marching onward. Henry Ford
Sometimes, after we begin recovery, things in our life seem to get worse for a time. Our finances, our relationships, or our health may seem to deteriorate.
