Today's Gift
Action for the Day: Today I am in competition with no one. I shall seek to better myself by growing beyond where I am. I will be patient with myself and take small steps. I will not expect perfection overnight.
Good Living
For it is only by accepting and solving our problems that we can begin to get right
with ourselves and with the world about us.
The day you have
In the world to come they will not ask me, "Why were you not Moses?" They will ask me, "Why were you not Zusya?" —Zusya of Hanipoli
We grow in the direction of the choices we make. That growth depends as much on how we make decisions as on which ones we make. Often in the past we tried to model ourselves after someone we admired. Our self-confidence was poor, so we depended on others to let us know if our decisions were correct, or we modeled our decisions on how we thought others would decide. Now we see that we can never become exactly like someone else and we need not try.
To each of us, the Universe gives a creative task and a problem - to take our special abilities and limitations and become whole. We use standards for our choices based on our best ideas of right and wrong, of what fits with our inner feelings, and of what our Higher Power is guiding us toward. Unfinished and imperfect as we are, we become more peaceful as we become more fully ourselves.
May I be true to myself in the choices I make today? I am becoming the man that I admire.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day
Keep It Simple
Courage and Patience
There are times when the "poor me" mood strikes us all. We complain that things are not better. We bemoan our sorry lot in life. We condemn ourselves and others for not meeting our expectations.
What can we do when these destructive emotions engulf us? First, we can realize that our "self-pity" is often the result of comparing ourselves with others or to some unrealistic standard of perfection that we think we "should" have reached and have not.
What we need to do at times like these is take a fresh look at ourselves and our circumstances. We must evaluate ourselves in relation to ourselves, and avoid comparisons with others.
When we view our progress honestly and clearly, in comparison to our own past performances and our own present conditions, we get a better perspective on the strides we have made. Seeing our growth, we can patiently bear our current frustrations because we have overcome our previous struggles and disillusionments.

Understanding is the key to right principles and attitudes,
and right action is the key to good living;
therefore the joy of good living is the theme of A.A. Twelfth Step.

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator
by Ralph Marston
This is the day you have, this is the circumstance you’re in. So be good with it, be good to it, and create new goodness from it all.
Don’t overthink it or worry it into oblivion. Live it, gratefully, graciously, with a commitment to give it your best.
Recall a particularly joyful time you’ve known. Feel that joy as it glows in your memory, and let it radiate freely into the here and now.
Inspire and encourage yourself to act with positive purpose and the highest standards. But don’t beat yourself up if you fall a little short.
This is the day you have, and you can fill it with the unique substance that is your life. Feel good about your prospects, then justify that positive feeling with the things you actually do.
Make life good all over again by the way you choose to see it and to live it. This is the day you have, and your chance to amaze yourself with all the great things you can do.
