Today's Gift

Relaxing when things don't go as you planned.

So, the boyfriend calls, says he's going hiking with his buddies for a week, cancels his date with you and says he hopes you won't be mad.

Or the bank calls and says you're overdrawn, and you don't know how that can be. You've been trying to carefully watch your deposits and checks. You've gone out of your way not to mess up. This can't be right!

What do you do when life seems to force you to react? You can panic, become anxious, yell, and respond with a counterattack. But that probably won't solve the problem. And it may turn things into a brawl.

Or you can calm down. Breathe deeply. Tell yourself to relax. Say as little as possible, if that's possible, while you're upset and disturbed. If a problem or disturbance that's not fair interrupts your life, try responding by saying hmmm. Then calm down and decide what you need to do.

Higher Power, help me start sailing through life with more ease by learning to relax and let life be.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Keep It Simple

The way to love anything is to realize it might be lost. ---G.K. Chesterton
Every day we take so much for granted. But we can count certain blessings: a roof over our head, food, clothing, family, and friends, freedom, a Higher Power we trust. These things are special.

Thinking about them wakes up our happiness. Our recovery program shows us how happy. we just have to remember to do what it tells us!

Step Ten helps us wake up our happiness. Each evening, as we think about our day, we can give thanks for the things we love: our recovery, our health, and the special people in our lives. If we spend part of our day thinking about these important areas, we wont lose them.

Prayer for the Day: Higher Power, help me make the most of my blessings today.

Action for the Day: Today, I'll tell five people I love that I'm glad to have them in my life. And I'll tell each of them one reason why.

One Day At A Time

Make Coffee
At my sponsor's suggestion, I stood by the coffeepot
and welcomed everyone who came by.
I must have experienced a million smiles in a very short time.
And when I pushed the broom all I concentrated on was the dust rising from it
as I moved across the floor.
My troubles were gone for the time that I was doing these things.
And so it can be for you.
If you can't live and you can't die, make coffee.

Daily Motivation

Exceptional life

If you want to get lost in the crowd, do what has already been done. If you want to have plenty of competition, do only what is easy.

If, on the other hand, you wish to stand out from the crowd, listen to your own unique voice. If you wish to be an exceptional leader, be willing to take on the most difficult challenges.

Do you want people to pay attention to what you’re saying? Then speak from your heart, and speak the truth in a way that has never been heard before.

The way to be truly exceptional is to be yourself. The way to be memorably impressive is to act upon and fulfill your own best intentions.

There is real, exceptional greatness already within you. Through your own efforts, with your own commitment and integrity, you can let that greatness flow out from you and into magnificent achievements.

You always have the option of living an exceptional life. With your attitude, with your thoughts, with your actions, choose that option now and always.

— Ralph Marstom
