In our past, we hurt others. We hurt ourselves. We fucked up a lot. So a lot of us go through life not trusting ourselves very much. The truth is; we couldn't be trusted. But because we are doing our Work-In, we can be trusted again. We can again live and love ourselves. We do this by forgiving ourselves. The power of forgiveness is tremendous in relieving you of all the bottled up anger and negative energy that is keeping you stuck in your present reality. To create a new reality for you, the first and foremost thing is to forgive yourself and everybody else for past mistakes and issues.
One exercise I learned that really helps me forgive myself is to go to a quiet place, recall an incident of the past that I want to forgive, and then try to feel the hurt as much as I can. If I need to cry, I do it. You can do it too. Crying is the best medicine for emotional hurt and pain, though society tells us different, especially for men. Give in. Welcome whatever feeling or feelings that come up. Recall your inner child who was involved in that particular experience and talk to him/her. Say that you forgive him, as he was only acting on the awareness that he had at that time. Reassure him, and love him/her for taking care of you at that time. You may have to do this more than once for deeper hurts; but it is worth it because your present self is dependent on healing your past issues. By practicing this exercise we'll live better lives. We'll come to trust ourselves again.
Accept me as I am, I have no guarantee.A claim to perfection I have not. Perfect I cannot be.
P.S. As a sign of forgiveness buy yourself a box of chocolates for Valentines Day this weekend. You owe it to yourself.
Happy St. Valentines Day
