Today's Gift

Fortuitous circumstances constitute the molds that shape the majority of human lives. ~Augusta Evans

Being in the right place at the right time is how we generally explain our good fortune or the good fortune of a friend. But it's to our advantage to understand how we managed to be in the right place at just the right moment.

We have probably heard many times at meetings that the Universe's timetable is not necessarily the same as our timetable. That events will happen as scheduled to fit a picture bigger than the picture encompassed by our egos. And frequently our patience wears thin because we aren't privy to the Universe's timetable. But we can trust, today and always, that doors open on time. Opportunities are offered when we are ready for them. Nary a moment passes that doesn't invite us to both give and receive a special message--a particular lesson. We are always in our Higher Power's care, and every circumstance of our lives is helping to mold the person we are meant to be.

I will take a long look at where I am today and be grateful for my place. It's right for me, now, and is preparing me for the adventure ahead.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Keep It Simple

Spontaneity is the quality of being able to do something just because you feel like it at the moment, of trusting your instincts, of taking yourself by surprise and snatching from the clutches of your well-organized routine a bit of unscheduled pleasure. --Richard Lannelli

The idea of turning our lives and our will over to the care of a Higher Power is a very revolutionary thing to do. We are being told, "Let go of your excessive carefulness. Let the spirit guides you." When we are in touch with ourselves, with the people around us, with our Higher Power, we are free to experiment. We don't learn from doing the same things correctly again and again. We learn from trying new things and making mistakes.

Over control is spiritually deadening. This is a program of life. Our renewal is a miraculous event. Why stop now? We can be in touch with the messages around us without trying to control the outcome. When we let our Higher Power do the worrying, we find many possibilities open up.

Action for the Day: As this adventure of life unfolds, I will not shy away from it.

One Day At A Time

Giving
These folks had found something brand new in life.
Though they knew they must help other alcoholics
if they would remain sober, that motive became
secondary. It was transcended by the happiness
they found in giving themselves for others.
- Alcoholics Anonymous, "A Vision for You," p. 158

Thought to Ponder
In AA, we discover that it is impossible to give
without receiving or receive without giving.

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator

Fear of missing out
by Ralph Marston

Don’t let the fear of missing out on one thing cause you to miss out on everything. Don’t be so worried about whatever you’re missing that you fail to fully experience what you’re doing.

Make a choice, and then give yourself to that choice, with confidence, with enthusiasm, with no regrets. Instead of fearing that you’re missing some other activity, be thankful you’re able to invest your time in the way you’ve chosen.

Your time and resources are finite, and nothing you can do will change that. What you can do is richly experience and enjoy the moment you’re in, the activities you’ve chosen, the good things you have.

Feel the freedom of not having to second guess yourself. Feel the joy of immersing yourself fully in what you’re doing.

Focus on the amazing time and place you’re in, on the great possibilities that are yours, here and now. Other people are doing other things in other places, and you’re getting the very most from all you’re doing.

Relax, and let a complete sense of satisfaction rise up within you. Life is rich, interesting, and fulfilling, for you have chosen to make it so.
