Today's Gift

If your life is ever going to get better, you'll have to take risks. There is simply no way you can grow without taking chances. --David Viscott

One sunny day a caterpillar who was afraid of the dark came to a tunnel which lay squarely in its path. It had a choice of going back where it started, or summoning the courage to crawl into the darkness. "What shall I do?" wondered the caterpillar. "If I go back home, I won't get where I want to go, but I'm so afraid!"

Just then, a voice called out from the tunnel. "I can hear you, Mr. Caterpillar. I am Mr. Beetle. I am here in the tunnel and I can see the other end. If you come through, you won't lose your fear of the dark, but you will get where you want to go."

We are all like the caterpillar once in awhile. But if we let our fear stop us from doing things which are necessary to our growth, we will never realize what courage we really have.

Is my fear a necessary part of new experiences?

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Keep It Simple

Who dares nothing, need hope for nothing.---Johann Fredrich von Schiller

As we grow, we'll need to change our behaviors, values, and beliefs to stay sane. This take courage. Courage is doing what is needed in spite of fear.

Courage means facing what we can't change. We can't change the fact that we have hurt people. We can't change the fact we have an illness. And we can't change the fact that we need help from others.

Courage also means facing those things we can change. We need courage to be honest, to have faith, and to be humble. And we need courage to let people know how important they are.

Prayer for the Day: Courage is more than being tough. Courage means being human. Higher Power, grant me the courage to stay sober and live a spiritual life.

Action for the Day: Today, I'll have an attitude of courage. I'll offer help where it is needed. I'll have the courage to say no when needed.

One Day At A Time

We thought “conditions” drove us to drink, and when we tried to correct these
conditions and found that we couldn't to our entire satisfaction, our drinking
went out of hand and we became alcoholics. It never occurred to us that we
needed to change ourselves to meet conditions, whatever they were.

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator

What would you like to see?
by Ralph Marston

Imagine it is tomorrow and you’re looking back on today. What would you like to see?

Whatever it is, now is your chance to make it happen. You have one opportunity to determine how you’ll live this day, and that opportunity is right here, right now.

Every moment is a choice. When making each choice, consider how it will play out tomorrow, or a week from now, or next year.

The actions you take, and the actions you fail to take, have real and continuing consequences. Today, you can choose what those consequences will be going forward.

The way you live today determines how your life will be when you arrive at tomorrow. Make the choices that will make you thankful for your good sense.

Though this day will be over soon, what you do with its moments will echo far into your future. Realize what a powerful opportunity that is, and make something grand out of it now, while it’s here.
