Today's Gift

Being on the tightrope is living; everything else is waiting. --Karl Wallenda

In walking a tightrope, a person has to learn to relax while going forward in a situation filled with risk. If they are tense and keep their body rigid, they will lose their balance and fall. But if they stay relaxed and keep their muscles loose while remaining very focused, they can continuously respond and readjust their balance while walking. Then they will experience the exhilaration of success. This is a perfect metaphor for life itself, for growing in a relationship and for growing in life.

Life itself is a risk. When we hold on too tight, remain too guarded, and anxiously try to control every factor, we become stiff and reactive rather than calm, focused, and responsive. The guidance of this path teaches us to let go of our anxieties and leads us to peace of mind. When we learn to do that, we can deftly walk our path and more effectively maintain our balance in dealing with whatever comes up.

Today I will calm myself while walking on my path.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Keep It Simple

I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.---William Allen White

Big changes are happening to us, but we can trust that changes will bring good things. After all, what have we got to lose? We have lived through the days and years of our addiction. Now, with the help of our Higher Power, the pain of those days has ended. We have no reason to worry.

Yet, recovery won't make our lives perfect. Hard things still happened. But we never have to lose hope again. We never have to feel alone with our problems. What will come next? We don't know the details, but we can be sure the future will be good if we stay on our path of recovery.

Prayer for the Day: Higher Power, I know life holds many new things for me. Help me and protect me as I live in Your care today.

Action for the Day: Today, I'll trust that each day of my life will bring me good. I will share this idea with one friend.

One Day At A Time

Ceased Fighting
And we have ceased fighting anything or anyone—even alcohol. For by this time
sanity will have returned. We will seldom be interested in liquor. If tempted, we
recoil from it as from a hot flame. We react sanely and normally, and we will find
that this has happened automatically.

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator

Choose your direction
by Ralph Marston

A ship that’s not underway is at risk of being blown onto the rocks by an onshore wind. Yet when the ship gets moving, the rudder, not the wind, determines where the ship will go.

Do you fear being blown in an undesirable direction by events in the world around you? Then get going, get your ship underway, and choose your own direction.

Just because the world can make you weary and discouraged, doesn’t mean it has to. You can propel your thoughts, your attitude, your actions in a positive direction.

Fill your days with your own efforts, your own passions, your highest values and priorities. The more compelling your objective, the less power anything else has to bring you down.

Invest your energy where it matters, in the good things you can achieve. Direct your focus into the factors you can influence and the places where you can make a difference.

Amid noise, uncertainty, confusion, choose to live with clarity, with purpose and effectiveness. And lead all of life forward by positive example.
