Today's Gift

The Chinese say that water is the most powerful element, because it is perfectly nonresistant. It can wear away a rock and sweep all before it. —Florence Scovel Shinn

Nonresistance, ironically, may be a posture we struggle with. Nonresistance means surrendering the ego absolutely. For many of us, the ego, particularly disguised as false pride, spurred us on to struggle after struggle. "Can't they see I'm right?" we moaned, and our resistance only created more of itself. Conversely, flowing with life, "bubbling" with the ripples, giving up our ego, releases from us an energy that heals the situation - that smoothes the negative vibrations in our path. Peace comes to us.

We will find serenity each time we willingly humble ourselves.

Resistance is more familiar. Nonresistance means growth and peace. I'll try for serenity today.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Keep It Simple

Worry is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do, but it doesn't get you anywhere. --Anonymous

We addicts need to be very careful when we feel worried because it can lead to relapse. So how can we stop worrying? We can take some clear steps.

First, we need to determine the root of our worry. If necessary, it may help to write down our problem. Second, we should answer these questions: How likely is it that this problem will actually happen? How serious is the problem? How much control do we have over it? Third, we need to make a plan. What could we do about the problem? What would this action solve? Sometimes the best thing we can do is let go. Fourth, we should talk it all over with our sponsor, someone who has faced worry and stays sober.

When we take these steps, we usually learn one of two things; there is a smarter way to handle the problem, or there is nothing we can do about it.

Prayer for the Day: God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.

Action for the Day: If I have a worry, I will follow the steps above. If I am not worried today, I will call my sponsor and talk about how the Serenity Prayer helps me avoid worry.

One Day At A Time

Knowing Peace
We are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness.
We will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it.
We will comprehend the word serenity and we will know peace.
No matter how far down the scale we have gone, we will see how our experience can benefit others.

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator

Live it well
by Ralph Marston

Live to experience, not to impress. Live to give, not to need.

Live to wonder, to learn, to teach. Live to accept, improve, create, not to complain.

Live to make a positive difference wherever you go, not to get by with the least you can offer. Live with gratitude for each moment, enjoying all the beauty and making full use of the abundance.

Live with enthusiastic energy, with caring and purpose. Live with acceptance, ambition, generosity and kindness.

Live with the highest expectations. Live such that you’ll have no regrets.

This is a whole, unique day you have the privilege to live. Live it with love, with authenticity, and live it well.
