Today's Gift

Success can only be measured in terms of distance traveled. —Mavis Gallant

We are forever moving from one experience to another, one challenge to another, and one relationship to another. Our ability to handle confidently all encounters is a gift of the Universe, and one that accompanies us throughout every day, providing we humbly express gratitude for it. Success is ours when we are grateful.

We are not standing still. No matter how uneventful our lives may seem, we are traveling toward our destiny, and all the thrills and tears, joys and sorrows, are contributing to the success of our trip. Every day, every step, we are succeeding.

We can reflect on yesterday, better yet, on last week or even last year. What were our problems? It's doubtful we can even remember them. We have put distance between them and us. They were handled in some manner. We have succeeded in getting free of them. We have succeeded in moving beyond them.

How far we have come! And we will keep right on traveling forward. As long as we rely on the program, we are assured of success.

I can do whatever I need to do, today, with success, when I humbly accept the Universe's gifts.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Keep It Simple

One must never, for whatever reason, turn their back of life. ---Eleanor Roosevelt

We’re going to have tough times. Maybe we don’t get a pay raise. Maybe we get fired. Whatever happens, don’t use alcohol or other drugs. Whatever happens, keep working the program. Our program will never turn its back on us. When tough times come, we can always turn to our meetings and sponsors. We’re lucky because we don’t have to face hard times alone. We have no reason to give up because our program will never give up.

So, pull closer to your program when times get tough. Call a friend and talk about your problems. Take in an extra meeting. All of this keeps us from turning our backs on life.

Prayer for the Day: Higher Power, help me believe that tough times are a chance to get closer to You.

Action for the Day: The program will always be there for me in tough times. Today, I’ll make a list of what to do to stay sober when tough times come. I’ll put the list in my Big Book.

One Day At A Time

We are also convinced, after the countless attempts we made to prove otherwise,
that alcoholism is incurable—just like some other illnesses.
It cannot be “cured” in this sense: We cannot change our body chemistry
and go back to being the normal, moderate social drinkers lots of us seemed to be in our youth.
As some of us put it, we can no more make that change than a pickle can change itself back into a cucumber.

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator

Fill it well
by Ralph Marston

Fill your mind with thoughts of what’s possible. Fill your day with action.

Fill your heart with love and with gratitude. Fill your world with goodness.

Fill your spirit with awe and wonder. Fill your moments with meaning.

Fill your attitude with enthusiasm. Fill your life with new value.

What you put in determines what you experience. Put in plenty of the good stuff, the positive stuff, the rich and meaningful stuff.

Life unfolds according to the energy with which you fill it. Fill it always with the best you have.
