Today's Gift

Happiness is a mental habit, a mental attitude, and if it is not learned and practiced in the present it is never experienced. —Maxwell Maltz

If only I had a new job, then I'd be happy. If only my family were more understanding, then I'd be happy. If only my hair were styled better. If only I had more friends. If only... Sometimes we begin to sound like a broken record when things go wrong, so certain that if the events and conditions of our lives were different, we'd be happy.

It's an old and unfortunate habit that we look around outside ourselves for happiness. We can never be sure of it if we count on certain conditions to guarantee it. However, we can always be sure of happiness if we carry it with us wherever we go. The happiness habit can be developed, with practice, just as surely as good piano playing or accurate pitching. We can control our own thoughts. The decision to make them happy ones is ours to make.

Am I carrying my happiness within me right now?

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Keep It Simple

We learn the magical lesson that making the most of what we have turns it into more. --Codependent No More

Gratitude

Say thank you, until we mean it.

Thank your Higher Power, life, and the universe for everyone and everything sent your way.
Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, and confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. It turns problems into gifts, failures into successes, the unexpected into perfect timing, and mistakes into important events. It can turn an existence into a real life, and disconnected situations into important and beneficial lessons. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.

Gratitude makes things right.

Gratitude turns negative energy into positive energy. There is no situations or circumstance so small or large that it is not susceptible to gratitude's power. We can start with whom we are and what we have today, apply gratitude, then let it work its magic.

Say thank you, until you mean it. if you say it long enough, you will believe it.

Action for the Day: Today, I will shine the transforming light of gratitude on all the circumstances of my life.

One Day At A Time

Making Amends
This is a very large order.
It is a task which we may perform with increasing skill, but never really finish.
Learning how to live in the greatest peace, partnership, and brotherhood
with all men and women, of whatever description, is a moving and fascinating adventure.

Thought to Ponder . . .
It is the highest form of self-respect to admit mistakes and to make amends for them.

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator

Allow
by Ralph Marston

The solutions to your most difficult problems already exist. Open yourself to their possibility and you will most certainly discover them.

Whatever you desire is already connected to who you are and what you now have. Bring that connection to life with your thoughts, your feelings and your actions.

Your worries, complaints, anger and resentment cast a dark fog on the world that appears in front of you. That prevents you from seeing all the good things already available to you.

Accept that anger, that resentment, those worries, and then quickly let them go. Allow yourself to enter fully into this moment that is now, with a clear mind and a peaceful heart.

Allow the joy, allow the sadness, allow the triumphs, the disappointments, the rich texture and fullness of life. Allow it all to work for you, and to carry you steadily toward the ever-increasing fulfillment of your very own special purpose.

Make loving use of this day to do what you can do, from where you are, with what you have. Trust that it will move you quickly forward, and it surely will.
