Today's Gift

The house, the stars, the desert--what gives them their beauty is something that is invisible. —Antoine de Saint Exupery

What makes our home special? Is it the shape of it, or whether or not we have carpeting? Probably not.

More likely, what makes us love a place is how we feel when we are there. Home is the familiarity of pleasant smells, activities, and special people.

And when we are caught by the beauty of the stars, isn't it something that happens inside us - the breathtaking feeling of joy that is so hard to describe? The beauty of a day or a special person in our lives cannot be captured, but it can fill and warm our hearts.

Can I measure beauty today by what I feel inside?

When should I be Grateful?
One spiritual writer believed that our only reason for gratitude should
be that we are part of our Higher Power's universe. Others point out that gratitude
helps us, not our Higher Power or the other people to whom we are grateful.
Their point is that it's not very uplifting simply to tie our gratitude to
certain gifts or benefits. Such gratitude is fairly shallow and is almost
no more than good manners. We need more than that.

The best reason for gratitude is the outlook it creates as we cultivate it
within ourselves. We will actually feel mentally and physically uplifted if
we know true gratitude. This is the true spiritual outlook.

Action for the Day: I'll find ways to practice gratitude today without letting
others know what I'm doing.

One Day At A Time

After we come into AA, if we go on growing, our attitudes toward security -- emotional security and financial security -- commence to change profoundly. Our demand for emotional security, for our own way, had constantly thrown us into unworkable relations with other people.
Though we were sometimes quite unconscious of this, the result always had been the same.

Excerpt of The Daily Motivator

Let life’s goodness flow
by Ralph Marston

All is well on this day, with this moment, in this place. Do what you do and experience what you experience.

Let go of the need to place a judgment on how things are. Choose instead to feel immensely and sincerely thankful for all that is, whatever it may be.

Peacefully accept the entirety of this moment and you’ll gain access to the fullness of its value. Choose to make full use of the unique opportunity that now presents itself to you.

Simply allow yourself to easily and peacefully do what you have chosen to do. Let your thoughts and actions be a source of inspiration and positive focus.

See the troubles, frustrations and disappointments as the opportunities they are. Know that you are fully capable of finding the goodness and value in every situation.

Feel the limitless power of your own awareness and the priceless miracle of your own being.

Be at peace with it all and let life’s goodness flow.
