Today's Gift

If a man can carve something out of wood, he is just as much a creator as a man who works with words. --Clara Glenn

It's really not what we do in life that matters, but how we do it. To more clearly understand this, let's take an example. We can all remember dreading a project that needed doing - maybe mending some pants or replacing a screen in the back door. First, we couldn't find our glasses to thread the needle, and then we stuck ourselves with the needle, drawing blood that promptly got on the pants. Or we hit our index finger with the hammer as we attempted to install the new screen. Our recollections are endless. Interestingly enough, our personal attitudes always directly controlled the success we had with the project.

What does this mean to us now? It suggests that if we are fully attentive to whatever we pursue, our experience of it will be significantly different. We are competent to handle anything that needs our attention. In most cases, we'll be more than competent. And if we have a real desire to do the job, we'll excel at it, providing we give it our undivided attention.

I am a creator of something today. Maybe it's a friendship or a poem. They are equal in the eyes of God.

Twenty-Four Hours A Day

Keep It Simple

The future is much like the present, only longer.---Dan Quisenberry

In many way we don't know what the future holds. But in terms of recovery, we know the future holds the Twelve steps. They will be with us for life.

We should never fall into the trap of thinking we "know" the program. We'll never know all the truth and love the Steps hold for us. "Knowing the Steps" is a project we'll never finish. As we change , the Steps change. As the seasons come and go, the same field or the same tree becomes a different picture.

Prayer for the Day: Higher Power, I pray for Your help as I work the Steps and continue my recovery. Help me discover new treasures.

Action for the Day: I will ask long-time members of my program how they keep the program fresh and alive.

One Day At A Time

A New Life
Life will take on a new meaning. To watch people recover, to see them help others,
to watch loneliness vanish, to see a fellowship grow up about you,
to have a host of friends -- this is an experience you must not miss.
We know you will not want to miss it.
- Alcoholics Anonymous, p.89

Daily Motivation

Decisively to life

Every achievement is an idea that has been acted upon. Every success story is a story about doing what must be done to make the success happen.

A single idea can end up being worth millions of dollars. Yet for that to happen, it cannot remain merely an idea.

Sustained and focused action is the way wishes and intentions are transformed into results and achievements.

It’s great to have a clever, creative idea, but only when you actually do something about it.

It’s powerful and effective to know what to do, but only when you actually do it. Dreams come true not just because they’re nice and desirable, but because they’re worked on.

Don’t keep your greatest possibilities locked away in your thoughts. Bring those possibilities to life with your actions.

When you have a great idea, or a beautiful intention, give it the love, respect and expression it deserves. Act on it, now and for as long as it takes, and bring it decisively to life.

— Ralph Marston
